Took my LB No4Mk1* to the range yesterday to try out my first batch of .303 hand loads I had made last week. Was pleased with the results and the function of the Lee Enfield design....got me thinking today that my Enfield doesn't come out of the safe enough so I decided to have a little photo shoot for it today.
She's a 1944 LB No4Mk1* that is numbers matching. From what I can tell it has a asterisk (*) on the top of the receiver which indicates there was rust in the barrel at one point (please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) and after stripping her down I noticed the entire barrel under the handguards is painted green. Ive heard this means that it saw service in Asia as they painted the rifles green before shipping them overseas? That's about as much as I have found out about this rifle.
The rifling is still decent for a 2 groove although slightly frosted. I can shoot under 3inch groups from 100 yrds with her.
I believe the stock is a replacement as it is in very nice condition...couldn't make sense of the markings on it. The stock has a small hairline crack at the rear behind the trigger group (Photo #10 in photobucket album). Is this something I should worry about? Also I'm not sure if the safety is correct for a LB or if it was a replacement. The bayonet says No4Mk2 very faintly on the side and fits somewhat loosely...not sure if this is correct either.
Also brought out my Dewat (#### & Click) LB Sten Mk2 1943 to keep my No4Mk1* happy. Hope you enjoy the pictures and feel free to comment!
