I've wanted to restore this rifle for a long time, and have finally decided to take the plunge and start gathering parts. I think it's a great candidate for restoration - nothing has been chopped, the finish is in fantastic condition, and it shoots like a laser beam.

So where do most people get parts, especially the wood? I've bought from numrich in the past, but was wondering what other options there are. Anyways, here are some "before" pictures...after pics to come when it's done!

Yuo could advertise here on EE. eBay is another option however you will need deep pockets. Gunshows are a good source. Make a list of what you want. Are you replacing all the wood...you butt is beech and I suspect British. If the rifle has been FTR'd you could keep the British wood. Just a thought. Ron

The stock has some kind of finish on it - varnish of some kind probably, so I was planning on replacing all of it. I could try removing it but it seems simpler to just replace it.

As far as parts, I think I need -

Stock set
Rear stock band
middle stock band
front sling swivel
front sling swivel screw
front stock band
stacking swivel
stacking swivel screw

I think that's it?

Just had another look at mine. It has been FTR'd at some point. This one has all kinds of weird and wonderful stampings. Sadly, it has been d&t'd :(, but the barrel is still full length with protector lugs intact. It is a 1944 No.4 MkI*, with a mismatched LB magazine.

For the stock set, Trade-ex (link on top of page) has almost all stock parts you will need, they have the front and rear hand guards, and but stocks. They have both Canadian/British and Indian, so if you do order make sure you know which one your ordering. They do not have the fore stock though, which unfortunate is the hardest part to find.

For parts, keep an eye out at gun shows, try putting a WTB add on the EE as their are quite a few people who have staches of parts and might be willing to let s few go for a price. Also, I know they are not that well liked around here, but watch Ebay as well, sometimes entire part sets pop up.

The first thing you need to decide is if you want Long Branch marked parts on the rifle. If it were mine the answer would be "yes". Saying that....LB parts always command a premium and aren't easy to come by. You do see a lot of British No4 parts out there. It may be a more expeditant way to restore the rifle to its former military configuration. Packages I've seen for sale on eBay for example are generally British or Indian. You'll spend $250 - 300 before your done...a little more if all LB parts.

Inventory what is on the rifle. Is the barrel LB or replacement? Is the sight "LB" or British? Look at the base rifle before you determine your restoration plan.

Rifle looks like its got great potential,

I got a complete stock set from Numrich for my #1 MK3*, as well as the nosecap, and it wasn't too bad costwise. (I think I paid about $120 shipped, or so...)

early ones had round.but if you look at the side of the reciever ,where the charger guide is welded on, the weld looks very rough.
