RE:Sasquatch807 question.(03/o7)
In the site he found it stated that the DCRA also
bedded the barrel in the stock.
Anything I read on the subject up to now said
that they did no stock work, that all you sent them
for a conversion was the action and barrel.
Could anyone please explain.

Ok there were 2 basic setups

1 military on a longbranch reciever

2 civilain on whatever reciever you sent in for conversion

now the military ones got the full treatment, modified extractor and ejector, 308 mag and the unit armour would bed it and pin the stock around the reciever.

civilain conversions, you would get what you paid for, basic barrel swap was the minimum.

There is a bulletin from the DCRA which compiled the successful bedding of these rifles used in competition. It dates from the early 60s. It gave the method and details so that other shooters could replicate the results.
Someone on this forum was mailing out copies a number of years ago. I have a set sitting here on my desk somewhere.

That document is posted on the Milsurp Knowledge library maintained by fellow Nutter Badger. It is typewritten and has some little diagrams of what and where to fix or fill.

With thanks to Edward Horton and Ian Robertson, a great new article has been added to the Technical Articles for Milsurp Collectors and Re-loaders (click here)http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=25
