So I posted this on Global Village and have been surprised by the responses so far.
how many of you would like to see longer COF's in IPSC? my suggestion on GV was "Long" COF's being upped to 40-42 rounds, and then a new one "Extended" being allowed to have 50-52 rounds. In order to make it not too difficult and have people really spraying ammo around I thought maybe make it static paper and steel on the "Ext" COF, no movers.
what do you guys think?

With High Caps sure, but a little ridiculous with 10 rounds mag's......how many mag's you intend to strap around......also that would be a problem due to space for the less fortunate :)

Most of the world country's utilize high capacity....

well I carry 5 mags on my belt right now. adding one more would be easy. so that would be 70 rounds. apparently alot of revolver guys already carry 72 rounds, so no problem for them either.

Well Rob not everyone is blessed with the extra mag carrying room of the more senior shooters figures (ok i am bragging a bit as i have lost 4 inches.) but to be serious with some of the juniors that we have out there, i think they would have trouble carrying more then four mags. There are a few who are shooting here in alberta where their #4 mag is almost the middle of the back. Based on this i don't think we would want to go much more then 40 rounds. that could be four on the belt and one in the gun.

40 would be great too. maybe make that the Extended COF? Long stays at 32, Ext would be 40.

Do you think we wheel gun shooters will be allowed to bring a wheel barrow on the range to carry our ammo??? Just joking!!! 50 rounds would be fun, in my opinion.

In the early 1990s the Sault Sainte Marie club used to put on great level III matches. There was always at least one 45-50 round field course and a lot of people were still using 1911s and 8 round mags. When I was using a 1911 back then I had 1 mag in the gun, 4 on my belt and 3 in my back pocket. I didn't feel hard done by.

By all means, lets go back to 40-50 round field courses.

Regarding the Sault matches, do any of you remember the 12 ft clown with the stop plate in it's belly and the pile of stones half way between the last shooting position and the clown?? :D:D:D

Well Rob I also carry 5 mag's because sometime it's required for a 32 round course of fire....because like you I'm sure I don't do standing reload, and once in a while I used 5 mag's....I still say High Cap first....when I shoot in the state (with my state mag's) I still have 2 or 3 mags on my belt....just because S#$t happen :runaway:

Shooting more is good but like Walter said I know some shooter that right now their 4 mag's are in the middle of there back....we should be thinking about the junior!

I shot a 7 stage match about 13-15 years ago, that had a 64 rd assault stage. It became a bottleneck with over 30 plus shooters at the match. The match started a 9am and ended at 7:45 PM! If you don't mind working, its fun.

pretty mature.....let's not think about our junior...

WHAT?

My 15 year old carries 6 Glock mags on his belt with no problem as does my 17 year old daughter....

She acutally used all of them at last years Drama Daze match on one stage laughing the whole time while missing.

I think any type of 32+ round stage would be cool.
Going to a 50 + field course would be fun but perhaps hard for all types of shooters with fewer mags.

40 odd rounds would be a good maximum for an extended course of fire.

Lots of fun ahead:D

I enjoy lots of shooting but the issue for some will be:
A) Not enough mags, or not enough body space for more mags.*
B) Dropping mags to clear jams, feed issues etc. Sometimes shooters run out of mags on the current longer courses.

I wouldn't mind a 40 round COF though... hopefully I'd have no failures. (Mind you a long course sucks if you get out of rhythm right off the bat.)

*although some people have 'magic' pants from which mag after mag comes.

LOL!

I'll never forget "The other Earl" and his magic pants.

A COF of 40-50 would be a lot of fun.

I was always told 3-4 mags for IPDA/CDP and at least 6 mags for IPSC.

4 on the belt, one in the gun and one in my pants. Not magic ones though.
