Longer replacement barrels for a smith&wesson 5906?

Hello!

One of my friends has been offered a mint Smith&Wesson 5906 by an older person but it is a prohib class firearm and his PAL doesn't allow him to own it (no 12-6 clause).
So I proposed a solution:I could buy the thing just to avoid possible confiscation/destruction and find a way to modify the pistol to get it in "restricted" status so I could transfer it to him later on.

Question: Is there such a thing as a longer replacement barrel for a 5906? I know there was a longer slide model but I never heard of replacement barrels.

I'm pretty sure one could easily recontour the longer barrel at the pivot point to make it fit the short slide of the regular 5906.

Anyone on this?

Try a company out west called Bits of Pieces. I am told Barry does good work but have heard from many that the wait period for his stuff is quite long. If you find another source for 5906 barrels, let us know.

I tried Bits and Pieces as I was in the same boat. I had a friend buy an unfired 5906 prohib as I had talked to Barry and he said he was going to do a run of barrels in a few months. I contacted him constantly for over a year and always got the run around. I ended up selling it recently.

I bought a prohib S&W 3954, had it sent directly to bits of pieces for re-barreling to restricted length and he assisted in having it re-registered as restricted. It was not cheap and took a few months for the work to be completed but in the end it was a painless process.

The guy from the firing line in Winnipeg had some smith Wesson pistols rebarrelled, don't know who did it. At the duguld show he had a smith 469? with the longer barrel.
