Hi guys,

Restricted noob here. I need some advice/opinions from experienced handgun/restricted owners out there. I recently purchased (well, November 30th) an M&P 9 range and carry kit from a local gun shop. How long do these normally take to receive the short term att? Do I need to do anything for this? I was under the impression the shop makes the application for the att and they will call me when it arrives. It's now the new year, and I still haven't heard about it. I went back to the shop about two weeks later and they said they had not received anything yet, and that they would call me. I could swear I read some people can get them same day!! Is this normal? Is there something I have to do first? Sorry for the noob questions, I just don't think it's normal to wait months, just to take it home from the store..

Thanks guys!

Depends on the province
My longest was 3 weeks my shortest was 2 hours
Give em a call and make sure the dealer did his part

Agree with calling the store. I'm currently waiting on 2 different transfers, one is at the 2 1/2 week mark, the other is at 2 weeks. In both instances I had happened to call the CFC about an LTATT and a STATT and found that the stores had not submitted the paperwork, so I had to call and "remind" them to submit it on their end so the CFC/BC CFO could process it on their end, unfortunately the paperwork was submitted a week later than it should have been, by both stores.
The store my husband bought his pistols at did a STATT application and an LTATT application for him and everything came back from the CFC after 5 business days. One of mine is being shipped so providing I'm home when it's delivered I won't need a STATT, but I understand that if I have to go pick it up from the Post Office I can call and get a STATT within a couple of hours. The other pistol I have to go and pick up so need to call and arrange a STATT myself.
Your gun store should be able to supply you with a reference number that you can then call the CFC with to find out whereabouts you are in the process.
Good luck!

Thanks for the responses! I guess they are just slow at Miramichi because I received the registration today, so I guess it's safe to assume the paperwork has been submitted. I will wait a little longer and see what happens.

Thanks guys!

Just get a licensed carrier to bring it home for you. (i.e a taxi, ups, FedEx) they told me here in bc that it could take 3-4 weeks for my statt and post offices don't hold items for that long so I just a had a cab driver who happens to be a licensed carrier to bring it to me. It is legal, I asked the CFO

Maybe they misunderstood your request, a long term ATT can take 3 to 4 weeks right now but a short term ATT to get a gun home from the store should only take from a couple of hours to a couple of days, that's what I've been told. I personally think it's kind of ridiculous to need a separate transport permit to pick up a gun from the store anyway...

Good news! I spoke with someone at CFC today about some transfers and also asked how long I could expect to wait for a STATT once they had been transferred. She said that if I called they could email me a STATT within a few minutes! Now if only transfers in BC were that speedy....
