Longshot produces excellent velocities in .40S&W, it will exceed any other powder out there, with low pressure as well. It is a good powder, I have worked up loads using 180gr bullets and it produces stellar velocites on the lower end of the loading charts. The numbers on the chronied loads show that the 7.3gr, load was the best, the SD was a low 10.7, it was also the most accurate, but at 1090fps it was a hot load in my Glock 22. The Hodgdon manual says you can work up to 8.0gr. (1159fps), but I don't really think a person needs a 180gr. .40 bullet going that fast, the pressures are still lower than the Titegroup max load of 4.7gr. Longshot is the powder you want if you want to launch bullets at fast velocities and lower pressures, it seems to fit the bill nicely. Recoil in the loads I listed is heavy, in lighter bullet weights I have tried it isn't that bad. It burned clean, especially at the higher charges. It did leave some soot around the muzzle which was easily wiped off during cleaning.

My favorite powder in .40S&W is Titegroup, it is economical, accurate, easy metering in my Dillion 550 (as is Longshot), Titegroup just produces stellar handloads in this cartridge for me. Below is my favorite bulk practice load, it makes IPSC major and is pleasant to shoot, is accurate and of the dozen or so powders I have tried, I cannot find another combo that can match its economics and low Standard deviations:
4.5gr. TG 180gr. Frontier Win Case WSP 1.125" 967fps 374fpe 7.6SD
Titegroup is also fairly clean in .40S&W, but it does also leave a sooty residue around the muzzle, which is easily wiped off. For those who buy powder in the 8lb containers like I do, the above load will give you 12444 rounds of ammo!
