Longshot's M14 Mag Conversion for Rem700 SA

Sounds interesting.......I would buy depending on the final product. There are lots of mag kits starting to surface for the rem. 700. I.e. Vbull, Badger & HS Precision to name a few. I have been researching just this sort of product and I believe the Vbull Precision mag kit is the superior product in my opinion. All are very expensive and all have there own drawbacks….yours sounds the most reasonably priced if that $ 350 ish includes a mag as well. May I suggest a lock out for the mag release. I know next to nothing on the legalese on making mag kits for these rifles, but is there any reason why you wouldn’t just make it to accept standard M14 mags?

While there is nothing against having it so a 14 mag can fit,any 14 mag you use would have to be pinned to 5 rounds,which would suck since the reason we did this was to have a 10 round capacity.

I'd bet that a long-action version using shortened 20 round BAR mags would be more popular among serious precision shooters than the .223 version.

I don't know about the current situation, but BAR mags were quite cheap and plentiful in the US a few years ago, since few people could use them.

It's 900 Pounds for the converted rifle complete and 400 to do your rifle.

Multiply 900 by about 2.7 and that's what it is in Cdn $$$$$$$.

Rifle = $2430

Conversion = $1080

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY TOOOOOOOO MUUUUUUUUCH.

RePete.

Yes they will convert your own rifle to AR mags. They are expensive. The conversion would have you needing to still pin the mags so it ain't that great an idea. I e-mailed them in England once top ask the price. They said that the conversion with conversion to my mags and taxes excluding shipping back and forth over the pond would run just under $900 cdn. Still nuts.

Won't be happening here

This conversion was produced by Grens Vegtor.He is a fantastic machinist.
My rifle started life as a 700pss with a detachable 4 round box mag.Short action.Since then it's had 3 barrels ,a new stock and tons of other custom work.
We looked at most of the other conversions out there and thought it would be cool if we could make something that would be almost drop in, and run off M-14 mags as they are cheap and sturdy unlike some of the other mags out there, and everyone has at least one or two kicking around.
GV machined up the whole trigger guard and the new mag well and it took him about 10 hours in total.
It did take a tiny bit of machining in the action,but not really anything you couldn't do with a dremmel.To make it work in a floor plate mag it would take more work.
The mags themselves are cut down 20 rounders made to hold 10.The notch in the front is welded over and there is a little modification on the back of the mag and to the lips to to make it feed easy.The spring is cut way down so that it gently pushes the rounds up and doesn't take to much pressure to strip them off the mag.The floor plate is steel and screwed into the mag walls.It could be aluminum and/or welded but we ran out of time.

We also parkerized it so you may see some unparkerized welds.Those were done with stainless.

And now the $24 question.Are we going to produce them for sale?
Maybe.Depends on what you guys think.Is there any interest?If we did we'd like to try and keep them under $350.Guess it depends on where they get made.
We would have to find a C+C mill to pump 'em out to make it worth while.Probably do them out of aluminum as this one is steel and pretty heavy.Not that I care. It worked flawlessly for me down in Phoenix.Not one stoppage or any kind of problem for that matter.

OMG! I would have one in a heartbeat! It looks really nice longshot;)

There is no more news on the mag system as Gv and I have been way too busy to even think about it.
Yes it seems an AR mag .223 version would still have to be pinned.

The only update is that if you want a chance at getting a 10 rd conversion done to your 700 then you better come out to the BC Tactical Precision Rifle Championships 24-25 june.Grens Vegter has agreed to give one conversion to a remington 700 away as a prize.Get your entries in now!
