Hey folks - not even sure if this is in the right section or not....

Looking for recommendations on holsters. I've been looking around a while now and can't seem to decide.
Eventually down the road I'd love to get involved with IPSC, but for now I'll need something for holster training courses and preferably something that'll last me a while.

Currently shooting with a Glock 17 9mm Gen4, and an S&W Pro Core 9mm.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Blade-Tech, Alien Gear, Safariland all make good holsters.
Some are more adjustable than others so boils down to your choice of cant and where you want it to sit on your hip.

Some of the IPSC holsters are pretty racey, but if you're shooting tupperware you're probably not looking to get that high-speed. I'm a big fan of Blade-Tech and Solely Canadian, plus you can use them for IDPA if you choose that path too.

I guess another silly question...is there anything I need to look for specifically that would accommodate a pistol equipped with a red dot optic?

Yes and no. A lot of holsters are able to accommodate them some cant

Most manufacture call it an RMR cut. The holster has to have room for the red dot ie:

Both my Solely Canadian (Glock) and my GCode (Sig) fit my optics right out of the box...

I prefer Solely Canadian to blade tech. My Blade-tech classic is (supposedly) a mix of kydex and plastic, the SolCan is all kydex. It's a minor gripe, but for the same price the SolCan feels much better.

They both work as intended though, good adjustable retention.

Solely Canadian are nice,I use a level 2 retention for 3-gun. I have 3 ghost holsters that I use for Ipsc and would also recommend them for price and quality and a great site sponsor Doubletap Sports usually has a good selection in stock. Another holster I've recently started using and really like for Ipsc is the DAA race master, although I'm not sure I'd recommend it as a first holster to learn with or use for 3-gun if that's a sport you may be interested in later. I'm assuming there's a club near you that participates in some sports, if you can talk to some those guys and I'm sure they will have some of the holsters mentioned in this thread to show you first hand.

I was a fan of Blade Tech holsters until I bought my first Soley Canadian. I know have four Soley's. I use them in IDPA and once or twice a year shooting IPSC club matches. They are well made, fit the gun well competitively priced and are made here in Canada.

I would avoid any of the open front holsters used by some. I have seen a brand new Smith and a Shadow2 fall from the Open designs when the shooter bent over. Just something that should not happen but does on occasion. Both IPSC shooters would have been better served with a regular pancake style holster.

Take Care
