Look what I found ........... in the local pawn shop!

Well I'm dying to see what's inside this thing but don't really want to pull it as it would deform the case I expect so am seriously considering doing a cutaway. Anyone have any experience with this sort of thin with recommendations/suggestions or maybe know someone that would do it? I'm thinking since the sabot splits into 3 pieces maybe cut out 1/3 all the way down? However ....... if I could bisect it then I'd wind up with 2 display pieces!

I believe that it's already a fired shell . The neck crimp is weak looking and the lip seems to be somewhat deformed. With some force you should be able to separate them rap up the Sabo in a rag and clamp it in a vice and pull while moving it back and forth. The primer/ ignitior has been hit. If you shake it you will hear that's it empty. If you haven't already noticed the dates aren't the same head stamp and Sabo marking's . Hopefully the projectile isn't a Depleted uranium ( read ! Radioactive!) And is a Tungsten carbide Dart/ projectile which I believe this one or be. The darker metal the tungsten with a aluminum tip. You are missing the plastic shield. A neet specimen for a collection to be shure.

As these are specifically designed to penetrate hardened armour plate, I would suspect they actually sucked @ss when used on mud buildings and people. A proper explosive cannon shell would be much more effective.

First hand experienxe here:

They didnt suck on mud huts/grape huts and actually went thru the wall and hit people that were hiding in there. HE was also effective but a mix of both in mud huts was a great day (for us)

Definitely NOT a fired case.
As I said in post 12, and clearly seen in post 20 photos, the circular ring gets fireformed out upon firing.

Surprisingly the 25 HE was not very effective during op Medusa (2006) the problem we found with the HE was any targets in a grape field, pot field or any thing more than a light vegetation would not be neutralized with the HE round due to the mechanics of the HE. The 25mm HE explodes upon contact with any thing "hard" to include the 1/2 inch grape vines, branches of the weed plants etc etc. So a target hidden behind a few rows of pot plants would have time to withdrawl by the time his cover had disintegrated. When we changed out to the frang we had greater effects on targets.

With regards to mud huts, not much on the small arms side of the house is effective on penetrating them, they are thick, well constructed and most are very old making them even harder! We put 3 rounds of 84mm Carl G on one from 60M just to see if it would make a hole and it managed to make a indentation aprox 7 inch in to an structure roughly 48 inch thick. When dealing with the grape drying huts an the likes small arms were only successful in fixing and suppressing while the artillery fire mission was dialed up or the Jtac roles in the what ever was in the sky that day A10s,AH 64s etc etc. When the tanks arrived in the AO that was a great way to make any structure disappear!

You are correct the sabot and case have different dates but I'm not sure it's a truly "fired" case as the neck and link indent aren't blown out in any way yet the primer is fired?? The crimp at the sabot ..... It's too perfect....... looks factory original. The sabot will spin freely but I don't think it's gonna pull in any hurry! Not marked in any way on the case sides as to being a dummy or anything else. Like I said maybe as a sample/display/promo/gift/??? Maybe was a trade show display prop at an arms show in the General Dynamics booth?? I don't see any scratching of the paint on the case walls one would expect to see if this had been loaded into links.
