Where they ever gone? Out of production? You see them in the various catalogs all the time, and I don't ever remember them not being on the Remington website.

Also, the Model 572™ Smoothbore BDL™ Fieldmaster®. It has all the features of our standard Model 572™ 22 LR pump action rifle, only we’ve added a 21" smoothbore 22 caliber, bead-sighted barrel capable of handling 22 shot cartridges.

I think the one I bought back in '93 (and then sold) was aprox $275 at LeBarons.
That's the new part I guess. Otherwise, this rifles been in production for the last 50 years.
How accurate is a .22 smooth-bore anyway?
A buddy had a Lakefield Mark I smoothbore and with CCI no.12 shot, pass shooting dragonflys was a blast. Not so much an question of accuracy as it was range. No.12 shot is almost dust. CB's were pop-can accurate to about 15 yards.
I hope the new one's are better built than the originals with over hardened firing pins. It's a ##### making a new firing pin out of a JC Higgins firing pin to make it function like it should. Must admit the JC Higgins 12ga firing pin has worked flawlessly.
Cudo's to JC Higgins. for properly hardening a firing pin. Many thanks to Dremel for the a decent product to repair such a problem.
Huh, but with a normal .22 LR round how bad would the smooth-bore barrel affect the round in terms of hitting targets at 100 meters?
No real experience with that, we never tried it out that far. I'm guessing that it would be no different than a small bore black powder gun. Probably accurate out to 50 yards, no more.
Well I guess I will research it more. Because 50 yards is too little for me to care.
