Lookie what arrived... Knoxx SpecOps

specops doesnt work as good as they say it does thats for sure. but you can notice a reduction in recoil.

I don't know about that. I installed one on my HP-9 about a month and a half ago, and I think it tames the recoil in a BIG way. I think it even gets better as you shoot more, makes sense, working it in. But right off the bat, that solid kick turned into more of a pleasant 'thud'. I mean, you still notice it, but it definately doesn't throw into the shoulder anywhere near as bad. Just my experience though, yours may be different I guess.

I'm about to purchase the Knoxx special ops from Questar for my Mossy 500... Is it worth the $ 179.00 or is it just money down the drain ?

I guess it's worth it... if you don't mind possibly getting out the dremel tool (or large file in my case)... and shaving off several mm's of aluminum from the SpecOps slide that contacts the trigger guard.

... and if you can live with not being able to easily access the tang safety and slide release.

Hi G22,
Can you post pics of what the stock looks like now after you filing job? i have the 20" model of the same shotgun (590A1) and am thinking of ordering the specops stock also. From your Before pics i looks as though the stock does not fit flush with to the rear trigger guard, so i want to see how it look after your filing job. Thanks G22. :)

It looks pretty much the same afterwards. Yes, there seems to be a very slight gap near the bottom, but it depends what angle you are looking at it. Below are 2 'after' pics. At a diff angle, there appears to be more of a 'gap'.

You might have better luck though with the 590A1 having a metal trigger guard. Mine is plastic. Perhaps it was better being plastic though, since the trigger guard was flexible. With steel... it might actually cause more damage

You don't want to see my filing job do ya? It is pretty crappy and not that smooth. I have no dremel tool or sandpaper on hand, and spent at least an hour filing away with a 2ft long coarse file I found in the tool chest. Once I could slide some dental floss nicely between the trigger guard and stock, I stopped filing. I can now also use my cheapy plastic trigger lock again.

Nice job on the filing , at least you minimized the gap between the stock and the trigger guard, that was my only pet peeve when looking at pics of the stock with the 590. Looks like you knicked a bit of the handle itself, although very unnoticeable at a glance, but never the less not bad with just elbow grease. I would like to hear your range report regardin shooting slugs and 00 buck loads. BTW where did you buy the Blue Loctite #242 ? at Crappy Tire? i tried doing a search and found no results.

Yep. I hit the edge of the plastic handle quite a few times actually. It was near impossible to avoid it at the end, especially with the long file tool I was using.

Got the loctite at the Tire place as well. Threads need to be cleaned good, cuz it looks like it just ran off the 1st time around from all the existing grease/oil. You can see the blue in a few of my pics. I only noticed it after the pics... the flash seemed to highlight it.

I ordered mine and one for a friend yesterday from Questar to put on my Mossy 500 (his for a Rem 870). Should get it next week. I'll let you know how it goes.

I got my Spec Ops stock last monday, and my Mossberg 590 on Friday. I did not have the problem of it not fitting; it went together slick as s**t.

I took it to the range on Saturday and put 50 rounds through it, this being a mixture of 2 3/4" slugs and buckshot from both Remington and Winchester. After all that shooting the only things that hurt the arm holding up the forstock; it takes some engergy to hold up a shotgun loaded up with 9 rounds :). I had popped about 20 rounds off of the saem stuff in an 870 with a recoil pad on it and my shoulder was sore the next day.

That is not entirely true about the being sore; when you anchor your cheek to the stock, make sure your cheek is not sitting on the intesection of the inner and outer tubes since it comepresses :(. Once I learned to keep my face back it was fine.

The only major drawback to this stock is that it makes it so much fun to shoot slugs that I now have to buy reloading gear for shells or I am going to go broke :).

Here's my 590A1 with newly installed SpecOps Stock, and my old Speed Feed Stock on the lower right. I guess this is how yours also looks like , Corey. Is it me or did you find that the stock has a little tilt/gap or decline at the bottom end near the trigger guard? I wanted to tighten it up but was afraid to put too much torque on the screw. I also filed down the sharp edge that makes contact with the trigger guard. Well, Can't wait to take it to the range.
