Lookin' for Kyle from Likely, BC

I'm not 100% about this but i think you're looking for a CGNer named drache. Some folks call him Dr. Ache. He's a good guy and created a chatroom for us. PM him and see if he's the right guy.

Well here I am, and yes Im the right guy you're looking for!

For those that don't know the OP is from Ottawa and was working for the summer out in Likely! As of 3 or 4 days ago he had never held a gun before from what I heard. Some friends of mine in Likely took him out shooting for the first time and then they told me to get my ass out there yesterday for his second time out shooting!

This guy is an AMAZING shot for his first time! Shooting at objects smaller than my head at 200 yards he hit them 3 out of 5 times and the two times he missed were by an inch or two MAX!

So if anyone is in Ottawa and wants to show him more of the shooting sports then contact him!

MotleyDrue huh? Hello from MidnightRuns!

Welcome. Do you shoot at any local clubs? You should come out to EOHC some time. Just don't drive the Vette there. You'll regret it.

Haha, you guys are great, I'm back in Ottawa on Saturday and I'll be looking into local gun shops, if anyone knows of any, let me know and I'll take a look. I was shootin' with the 700 magnum (my fav), 303 British, and an SKS 47 I think they were. I was told that a 22 is probably a good place to start, anyone disagree?

.22 is easiest on the wallet for "plinking" although the way you were shooting, you have no need to start from the bottom of the learning pile :D

It really depends on how you like to shoot. Do you prefer the semi auto of the SKS or the precision of the Reming 700?

If you like the semi auto you really cant go wrong with an SKS to start! They are cheap as hell to buy and feed. And since I believe you are going back to school money might be a factor this is the cheapest semi option.

If you want the "precision" of a bolt action rifle then go with a .223, it's cheaper to feed than a .308 and the 7mm Rem Mag you were shooting in Likely. For this I'd suggest a Stevens 200. You can pick up one of these for about $400 although a scope will cost you another $400 for something decent/good (although I have gotten away with $200 scopes many many times).

Not much in terms of gun shops around here. You can check out Le Baron and Action Sports for starters. I honestly don't know what else is in the immediate area. If you venture out of town a little, you'll find a couple.

As for the .22, it's perfect for cheap all-day shooting. The larger calibers are going to cost you a lot more in ammunition. If you want a lot of trigger time, .22 is the way to go. Most people seem to like the Ruger 10/22. I really like my Savage Mark II.

Andrew, the .22 of mine you were shooting was a Savage Mark II. Very accurate and cheap. If you want to go cheaper the Steven's .22's are the same actions and are generally about $40 or more cheaper from what I've seen :D

Next time I head out to the range, I'll send you a message. I'll bring the Savage so you can try it out some more if you want. I'll bring along the Norinco M305 too if you want to try it out. Hell, if my ATT can come in, I'll even bring the 1911A1 for some ####s and giggles.

In fact, you might know Tony from the local car boards. I think he's a member here too. Maybe we can set up a range day. I'm not sure what he has, but it might give you a chance to try out some different models.

I picked up my Savage from somebody here on the board. Have a look at the classifieds section. You'll certainly find something there.
