Took my little girl ( 7 years) out to the outdoor gun range today. Let her take a few shots at some silhouttes at the 50 yard line with my 4c.
Well after a few shots she was knocking them all down. We gradually worked up to a pair of small goat silhouttes at the 110 yard line. Knock them down too (proud papa)
Anyway I think I want to get her a 22 of her own. What would you guys go with? I was looking at the savage mark 1-G. I think a single shot would be best to learn on.

Any opinions on the Mark 1-G?

I'd go with a marlin 915YS. I'm really happy with it, and will probably be using it after the boy out grows it. :D

Krylon "fusion" comes in "fairytale pink". :D

You can pink up anything you buy.

I'd have a look at the marlin. I spent a gross amount of time last year studying various youth models.

Why not another Savage, like a used 3B, etc.?

Henry Youth single-shots are supposedly highly recommended, and there's always the great Canadian standby in the form of the Cooey 39 (gave one to my younger sister and she loves the feel of it).

However, I still have involuntary shudders at the sight of a "pinked-out" Cooey 39...

;)

I've been pretty happy with my Savage rifles so far...I've owned the Mark II GLY (youth model lefty), and it's a great rifle, especially with the Accutrigger. Might be a touch big for a 7 yo??

well she was shooting my full sized savage 4c. I t was a little big so i think a youth will be about right.

Well, if that's the case, then the mark II-GY will probably last a little longer then as she won't outgrow it as quickly. There's a new one in SIR's website right now for $207.99.
