Looking @ a Ford 6.7 diesel as a hunting truck.

meh...... i was faced with the decision between the 6.7 ford and going back to pure reliability and longevity in the cummins 5.9 ....... i went with a very well kept 1991 Dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 with the 5.9 first gen cummins, no computer , detroit locker in the rear ;)
zero regrets and over 5000km on her since i bought her a couple months ago.

A 12 valve Cummins isn't going to throw up the ###y numbers that new diesels will, but they are like the Nosler Partition - the standard by which all others are judged.

My 12valve cummins with 470000 km bought for 4500$ looks rough, but with a road armour bumper 12000warn and all the other wieght adding things has put a good run on few friends cars including a srt8 charger. They were very happy I have a manual or else it would be faster but I can't afford to pay for a new tranny every six months. The 12valve is the king of power you just don't have the option of detuning without getting your tools out. I have spent a lot of time on kijiji and in the garage this truck has twin turbos, 140 ddp injectors, oringed and studded, dual disk clutch and a nv5600 swapped in. Have pulled the Rogers pass with a 35' Jaco designer way over weight maintained my speed no problem in the middle of summer. I am very biased though the family car is a 2000 ford excursion with a 24valve.

You can turn them into fire-breathers, for sure. But stock they still pulled nicely and didn't burn a lot of fuel to do it.

And I'd go 12 valve and 5 speed if I wanted a beater truck that would haul ass for me.

mine is a totally unmodified truck, with the 727 3 speed automatic. It gets nowhere fast, but she sure carries a load ;)
if I was thinking about buying a ford diesel 4x4..... I would be looking for a 2000 7.3 powerstroke and nothing else

Looking to replace my old 6.0 liter ford hunting truck with something newer.

Is anyone having problems with the new 6.7 diesels....dealer say they are bullet proof but some online reports show engine problems.

Some insight from CGNer's owning the 6.7 would be helpful.

thanks :)
friend bought a brand new 2016, died with 3500km on it. fried the PCM and wiring harness. It is also considerably worse than a 6L mileage wise

Well in the end I kept the 04 350 as my hunting truck and I bought a 2016 Dodge 3500 Dually Cummins with the 900 ft/lb torque rating for towing and hauling...time will tell if it was the right move. :)

I'm looking for a bush truck, and this is what I want, a 4x4 with a 300 straight six. Any year.
And I already have a '99 24valve Cummins Ram 2500. Runs sweet as pie, love it. Loud as hell.

Dad had one of those 2500 Rams. The body rusted off before the engine quit.

I drove one from California to Ontario for a buddy. I was averaging 24 miles per gallon at speeds of 70+ miles per hour.

Great truck. I wish I could justify a second vehicle as I'd love to have one.

I'll stick with my 7.3 DI
No emission crap . Owned since new coming up on 400,000 km
Had to change a few glow plugs & a couple cam sensors in all that time .
Still going strong . It will out live the truck 21 yrs & counting .
Side note to any 7.3 DI owners if you have to change your cam sensor (& you will sooner or later)
DO NOT BUY AFTERMARKET sensors they are crap. do your self a favor & get an OEM Ford sensor .
