So i've been looking around the interwebs for an ar-10 lower and either I can't look for ..... Or there's not much. There are nice complete .308 in EE, but I ain't really got the money for a full rifle. So should try and ask retailers a estimate on an import, etc. Might try ATRS first.

Yes...there are essentially 2 styles when it comes to the .308 AR's. Armalite/Noveske on one side and DPMS (and others) on the other. Most general parts (like triggers/barrels/etc.) fit both but things like BCG's and upper receivers will only fit one style.

Lots of forums down south...forgot to mention...the biggie for most guys/gals was compatibility with Magpul .308 mags. The DPMS style took them as default. Armalite recently brought out an 'A' style AR10 series that takes Magpul mags...but their 'B' style AR10's take the older modified M14 mags (so 'NO Magpul for you'!). Just sayin'...
On the Pmag issue. I own rifles that take both mag types and yes the original AR10/SR25/DPMS style is the standard. The current AR10B takes M14 based mags.
Honestly I have never been a Pmag fan. I own two for my AR15 rifles for practicing mag changes. I prefer D&H as they work in every firearm I have that takes STANAG mags.
So now we get to the 308 version. I'm not a fan of Pmags, the DPMS mags are mediocre and the KAC mags are ridiculously expensive. While the AR10B gen2 Armalite mags work great are mid priced and quality wise are pretty good. Also you can get modified M14 mags if there was ever another assault rifle ban in the US. Lastly you can if needed use a M14 mag. No last shot hold open. Use the sling to keep the mag seated and it will work if ever needed.
Frankly I'm waiting for the 10 round pistol mags Wolverine is getting made before I start buying 308 mags for the current system. I'm actually not really happy with the current choices. While I am very happy with the AR10B mags.
I would of course recommend going with the current standard if buying new. But I would also give it some thought for the above reasons.
Having just finished my AR10 super SASS project after 2 years in the making. I would recommend buying a complete rifle. Especially for your first one. It took a year for my parts and another year to source the right barrel. With 308 AR rifles the standards are all over the place.
Do a search on either 308AR or AR10. Change the search default to 2 years. Lots of threads on these rifles.
