Looking at 17 hmr revolvers...

Seems that Taurus are pretty much the only ones that make them these days.

Anyone have experience with these? Who carries them?

Ah much as I like ruger, I like the look of the Taurus much more!

If I was handgun hunting I'd get one in a second. (I'd go Ruger though)

As far as Canada goes, I just prefer to stick with .22lr for my plinking.

Wouldn't a lot of the potential punch of the 17hmr be lost using a short barrel on a pistol?

Comparing apples to apples, no. Lets take two identical revolvers; 1 .22lr and 1 .17HMR. Both will have lower muzzle velocities than a carbine or rifle length barrel in the same caliber but, keeping it to just these two hypothetical revolvers, the .17HMR will ALWAYS have more m.v. than the .22lr from the same length barrel.
I fired a S&W stainless .17HMR couple of summers ago; THAT was fun!! Had a great roar and almost the kick to match.
