I've been looking for a .44 rem mag and found a Puma in SS I'm just wondering how is the quality control on the Puma? I'd appreciate any thing you can tell me. I know puma has been talked about before but I haven't been able to get the search to work for me since all the upgrading.

Thanks CK.

I've never owned a Puma, but I've read lots of intraweb reports that suggest Puma rifles are hit and miss....

Google your rifle, you should get lots of hits.

I have one in 357, I enjoy shooting it. I picked it up for Cowboy action shooting but it's now a regular bush companion.

Loads 38 just as well as 357 both SWC and RNFP.

The only thing I don't like is how the wood is done. If feels rushed, kinda "chuwoodish" and could use a coat of varnish.

It would be my back up hunting and plinking gun. Some things my .308 just doesn't do. As it's SS I wouldn't have to worry about it rusting out on me either. The price is also half that of a marlin and I'm on a limited budget

Sounds like a good enough price, but please don't base your decsision on whether or not it is stainless.
Neglect is the only reason that blued guns get rusted. No rust on any of my guns and the two oldest date back to the 1920s. I have several in the range of 50 or 60 years old, that I know have been used extensively, often in very harsh conditions.

I have a Puma in 45 colt, it took some trying to find a load it really liked. Now it shoots well & is a pleasure to shoot. They are a strong action & can be loaded quite heavy. This is, of course just my experence. AJ

When you're doing a search, you need to tell it how far back to search. On the left side it says "FIND POST FROM" and you set it to a month ago, 2 months ago, a year ago or... There used to be a default of a year, but now you need to set it.

Can you check it out in person?

I bought one recently and it shoots pretty good but the barrel is a little over indexed, the wood has some cracks, and there are some sharp edges on the receiver where it was milled.

It's a fun gun, cycles nice and the trigger is good as well.
