Looking at a M1 carbine.

I was looking at a M1 carbine in an article and I was thinking on buying one. Are they worth getting? Or will it just sit in the safe? Also how much is the ammo for it? I own mostly Russian rifles because they are cheap and I am poor. Is the M1 fun to shoot? Is it kinda like an sks?

M1 Carbines are fun to shoot, ammo is more expensive than surplus com-bloc stuff.
