A friend of my father has what I beleive is a Lee Enfield, but I am not entirely sure since I have not looked at it. I am going to look at this weekend. He said it was his fathers deer rifle and has been in the closet for about 40 years now. My dad says it looks like it is in good shape. The guy wants $50 for it so I figure I can't really loose. But before I go ahead with it is there anything I should watch out for? I don't think it is all original because my dad said the stock is pretty glossy so it has probablly been redone.

Just looking for tips.

Thanks!
Evan

There may be headspace issues. If it is a Lee Enfield the parts are worth more than $50. If the rear sight is above the receiver it most likely be a No4 LE, if the rear sights are in the middle of the barrel, it will most likely be a No1. If the barrel hasn't been shortened, it can be restored if you are interested in that sort of thing.

Just talked to my dad, he said there are no markings on the gun other than the number '2525'. I am thinking it is an enfield though because of the metal band around the wrist and he said there is a gold madalion type thing in the stock.

Ok, so here are some pics. Can't really find any markings, looks like someone painted the metal in some spots. It may be a good rifle to try and restore.

Looks like a Bubba'd SMLE No1MkIII. If the barrel is uncut and has the original front sight, you could restore it. For a $50.00 inital outlay, the cost would be reasonable provided the rifle is otherwise in good condition. Getting the missing metal parts would take some time, but not be impossible. $50.00 is definitely a good buy regardless. Go for it!! Good luck with your project :dancingbanana:

Here are some muzzle pics, as good as I could get them. I am a fan of rust blueing, and was thinking of trying that on this gun as long as my solution can bite into this metal.

So, when i eventually get around to restoring this sucker I haven't the slightest clue where to figure out what new parts I need and where to get them. Any body know of a good website with info on this? I will also need to find a disassembly guide so I can get it good and cleaned up. Any idea where to find this?

That looks alot like the No.one I just picked up(see in this forum"my P14..."). A kind fellow gave me this link with schematic. The paint came off with ed's red. Should be fun to get 'er in shape again cause it looks good. Hard to beat the price!
