Howdy gang,

Looking into purchasing my first ar15.

I'm active military (chairforce) and really do love the full length rifle models. When I fire my friends mid length and carbines I find the gas systems respond a lot tougher than the rifle length, also I would primarily be using it for long range target shooting.

I'm looking at something in the 1,000 - 1,500 dollar range but I notice most canadian retailers only carry carbine length rifles.

So far the only manufacturers I have seen in my price range who sell rifle length ar15's are armalite and stag arms. What are your guys opinions on these manufacturers?

Thanks

The Stag Model 4 with the 1/7 Government profiled barrel is the closest offering to a C7A1 I have found in Canada. If you swap out a couple small parts it becomes a C7A2 very easily.

I have found them to be reliable and accurate clones.

Thanks,

I'm not necessarily trying to make a c7 clone I'm just partial to the rifle length systems. The 1/7 barrels only look good with lighter loads though correct?

No 1/7 is a faster twist than 1/9 or 1/12. 1 in 7 means that in 7 inches of barrel the bullet will make one full rotation. With 1 in 9 it takes 9 inches to make a full rotation. so the lower the second number the faster or tighter the twist.

A 1/7 barrelled AR will happily shoot 77gr match bullets but that said I am happiest with 69grain HPBT bullets.

I was looking into NEA but with so many companies taking preorders it's going to be a long time before I will be able to get one. If theres one thing I hate being a Canadian gun owner is putting in an order for a gun and 6 or 8 months later it shows up and an inconvenient time.

Core AR-15 and Questar AR-15 are very well priced, and you can get them right away.

My good friend down the street bought the Questar AR-15 a month ago and loves it and for the price its a great deal

Only rifle length systems I've seen on Questar are rock river arms and they are only accepting preorders...

I don't think you can go wrong with the Stag (it's what I'd buy in that barrel length with no hesitation at all), you might also try Wolverine , but Armalites seem to be pretty scarce these days.

way it goes sometimes..
I gotta take exception.. there is not an inconvenient time for a new rifle to show up at the door - welcome it with open arms

When you're 22 years old and trying to float your mortgage, car payments, bills etc. trust me a $1,500 gun can show up at a bad time :/
