Is there a economic side of reloading shotgun ammo ? I reload all of my center fire ammo , no savings , I just shoot twice as much ? If reloading shotgun is the same that's not too bad or just keep buying CT ammo . This is not considering initial set up .

No, not unless you get a very good price of shot, or free shot.

Buckshot, slugs are well worth it though.

If you know what you are doing you can make more accurate and consistent skeet/ trap loads which equates into a savings over top end commercial loads.

Steel duck and goose loads however are never good performers when compared to factory. The fastest 3" loads I can produce with steel are 1790fps but only deliver a payload of 1oz where as Remington hyper steel toss a 1-1/2oz at 1700fps
To level the field a 1-1/4oz 3" steel load travels at 1260-1375 fps reloaded but 1700fps from remington hyper steel, 1695 fps from a Winchester blind side HV, 1555fps from Kent etc
Factor in that each shell has 30+gr of powder, a 209 primer one B.P. Ranger plus wad,22gr of B.P.#47 buffer, one .030" over shot card wad on top of your expensive steel shot and now the time, labour and cost make it economically unfeasible....to add insult to injury reloaded rounds are not waterproof.

Now slugs and buck shot have savings to them if you can get wheel weights etc for casting.

I got my mec600 with 2 bars and a variable shot/powder bar and auto primer for $40 at a gun show so I can't complain on the set up expense.
Bags of shot came from the same show for $12ea so again I m ok for now.
After my old lee melting pot burned out its heating coil I've been contemplating on building a shot dropper from the remainder plus a stove top element.

And how many guns has hyper steel destroyed since it was introduced??? It produces pressures way above acceptable limits
Anyone using it for a comparision to steel reloads is not giving a true picture
With the latest rsi configurations and the Alliant STEEL powder factory has met it's match a few years back now

A comment like Steel duck and goose loads however are never good performers tells me someone has very limited experience reloading steel
I pattern all my loads and have yet to find a factory steel load that can give me the same pattern results as my reloads and have tried every factory round ever produced since the day it became mandatory and reloading steel one year after that in 12 ga and 10ga.

Google some of the waterfowl forums for gun damage with hyper steel
it is unreal

Just one post
Know personally 5 different folks who have destroyed 5 guns shooting that crap. 1 SBE I, 1 SBE II, 2 Berettas..a 391 and an A400, and for the kicker...an 870....yes an indestructable 870. Damages range from exploded barrels to parts and pieces of the actions falling out. In the case of the 870, parts of the bolt fell out. This stuff is trash, and its dangerous. One of the Berettas had a split 8" long down the barrel and one of the Benellis had a 6' split AND and split barrel end and the choke was blown out. DO NOT SHOOT THIS CRAP!

You can save money loading the 28gauge ,or 410, but with the cost of shot, you don't save much on the 12 and 20 gauge.

Agree . The difference with 12 ga and 20ga is only that I would be reloading the top end shells equal to STS Nitro27 AAHS for the same cost as others are shooting wally mart promo. Which may or may not be a concern. If I was getting ready for an event it would but not for just fun shooting
Cheers

I've been reloading my own shot shells for skeet and trap for the last year. If you can buy flats of shells at the 55 to 65 dollar mark before takes it isn't worth the headache of reloads. Now that flats of shells are up to 80 bucks a flat down here it makes more sense to reload. Have in mind for skeet and 16 yard trap I use 1oz compared to factory loads that are 11/8th ounce, this way I get a little better bang for my buck out of my lead. I can reload for about 5 bucks a box most places sell a box for 6.50. Hope this helps you out a little bit. If you can make your own shot somehow (youtube has lots of ideas) then it be well beyond reloading.
