Looking at Starting, Hows This For A Kit?

Calipers
I strongly receommend a seprate priming tool (Lee autoprime works very well)
Shellholder(s) for the cases you plan to reload
Dies
strongly recommend a powder trickler. The powder dispenser will get you close, but get to the proper weight with a powder trickler.

good to go.

I couldn't swing $619.99 for that kit. The trimmer and press are ok the powder measure suck hard so factor in some more $$ to get a new one.

Prophet river has the rcbs rockchucker kit on for $300, even if you need to buy some other things you have $300 to play with before you hit the price for the Lyman.

+1,

Really? I have an old old lyman 55 powder measure and its been great. I've never used anything else to compare it to mind you

Agree. Hard to beat a rockchucker kit especially at that price.

Look at the Lee Classic Cast. Then get yourself a small electronic scale. The case trimmer is good.

Definitely a decent caliper.

Don't forget a chamfer and deburr tool. A funnel to pour the powder into the cases.

You should be able to get started for under 400.00

And yes the rockchucker is a great press.

The Rockchucker deal from Prophet is $300 + $25 for shipping, and if done before Dec 31, there is a $50 rebate from RCBS that must be submitted by Jan 15, 2013.
There are always trimmers available at EE. The $300 saving would buy a trimer, dies, bullets and brass.
+ RCBS is very customer friendly.

That Lyman kit looks pretty good, but you will still need a few more things.
A caliper to measure overall length.
A trickler of some sort. I use a .243 case and roll it in my fingers.
An old bore brush for cleaning inside case necks.
Some way to clean brass, even just a rag with some solvent on it works well.

This thread is the first time I've ever heard someone say the Lyman powder measure "suck hard"
Every other comment I've ever heard about them has been posiyive.
I don't own one, so I can't give an opinion, but I intend on getting one.
The rest of the stuff in the kit is as good as any other brand. It isn't much of a deal from WSS, but it does
have most everything together in one shot.

If I could do it all over again I would seriously consider the Redding T7 Turret Press from WSS or any other dealer. I bought my equipment (Hornady from Grafs.com) as they ship to Canada via USPS. I have slowly been trying to add more redding products to my reloading collection though because the quality is impeccable. You might find yourself doing the same the more you get into the art of handloading. My modo is BUY ONCE, CRY ONCE

Still the most for the least, the $300 difference buys lot of components and other tools needed.

Rory Cunuck, try Lyman measure and see how they "suck hard". Mine was a poor design and wasn't consistent. Rcbs/redding/hornady all make a better, easier, more accurate measure.

I started reloading a year or two ago and didn't have much$$. I bought most of my stuff at shows and off kijiji used and to date I have 3 single stage presses (2 rcbs 1 Lyman) and dies for 9 calibers. including ALL dies and accessories (Lee auto prime,2 digital scales from ebay etc.) I've managed to keep it UNDER $350 so far.

I agree, that RCBS kit sure is a nice deal.
You could send me your Lyman measure, and I'll see just how bad it is ;)
