looking for 18.6 inch carbine length gas system barrel for a modern sporter build i have in mind. thought i saw one on the EE a while ago but cant find anything on it now.

any help would be appreciated, thank you!

The only 18.6" barrel with a carbine length gas port you might come across is a WK180-C take off barrel. The gas port is larger than what is required for an AR (or in your case a MS) so it has to have an adjustable gas block to get it to function.

Go on then... Tell us why you want a Carbine gas 18.6" barrel. You're not wrong for wanting one - want whatever you want. But tell us...

It’s sure to ‘work’, however especially for the OP if you have a chance somehow, shoot a rifle length system then shoot a carbine length. The recoil impulse is (IMO) substantively different. Rifle length is much softer and enjoyable to shoot.

Don't disagree with the above. Mid or rifle is smoother but there is nothing wrong with carbine length on a 223.

Carbine length gas system on a 18.6" barrel is harder on the rifle, the excessive pressure and gas causes unnecessary wear on your internals, it is generally something you want to avoid and you will have a hard time finding such combination from any reputable barrel maker.

I’m certain wear on the internals is not a thing I’ll be concerned about considering how much I shoot. And the reason for wanting this combination is simply to put a mock suppressor on the end of it to make it look like a M4 carbine with a suppressor.

I understand the mechanics of a shorter gas system and the “recoil” I will feel but it’s not for anything else other then another upper that looks sick as ####.

Would a barrel with a mid length gas port not leave you with enough length forward of the gas block for the faux suppressor?

I don't have the answer off hand but it might not hurt to look into it as you will have a better chance of finding a barrel with a mid length port.

Mid length would work but again it’s for aesthetics. If I can’t find a barrel by the time I have another upper I’ll probably just do that still look the part I’m sure.
