Looking for 1911 in 9mm. Opinions?

cz silhouetter, where can you buy the tripp research mags?

Order them directly from Tripp off their web site. Shipping is $15 for every 3 mags since they can only ship 3 at a time across the boarder due to the $100 order limit for gun parts. If you order 5 or more they are only $33.45 a mag so there $38.45 at your door no taxes no duty.

Hope that helps

Well, my budget is about $600.
I hear good things about the Norc but can't bring myself to buy one.

STI gets good reviews so I might go that route.
I also see a couple of Remington R1's. Anyone have any experience when them? They are within my price range.

I ordered 4 mags from Tripp earlier this week, they are only shipping 2 at a time now to Canada to keep it under $100.00.

Well, working in the automotive industry I have seen many cases of companies from China copying popular items and selling for less because they didn't have to design or refine it. They just take a successful design and copy it. I have, on a number of occasions, had to identify counterfeit products using our company name and logo. And guess where the counterfeits originated?
I guess it's a personal preference but I prefer knowing that the product I am buying came from people who are part of and take pride in the design and development of a product.

Is there a reason your ignoring the Rock Island Armory?
Take a look at the US reviews on them.
They are made by the same company that makes the Spartan for STI.
And they are right in your price range.
Its a no brainer!

Sorry, not ignoring it. It's still on the table. I was just checking out the prices at Epps. I have to do some more research. Thanks for your input though.

So what you're saying is.... you're only going to buy a Colt? ;)

The pistol was designed over 100 years ago. Norco isn't copying this particular firearms any more than anyone else is.

I realize colt was the original...but at least most other companies did come up with many unique designs of their own. As I said, it's a personal choice.

I bought a Grohmann skinning knife a few months ago for $100. Yes, I could have bought a made in china knife for $10 but one day I will be passing this item on to my son and I would prefer it didn't say made in China on it. By then it may be one of the rare items that doesn't say made in China.

I have the STI Spartan in .45ACP. I love that pistol, will never sell it. Round count is not high but it has been flawless. As far as I'm concerned go .45 in a 1911 though. In terms of bullet cost there are better ways to go like buying bulk, reloading, buying factory reloads. You won't get cheaper than 9mm with .45 but the .45 is a sweet round in it's own right.

Ruger is just releasing a 1911 in stainless steel. It has been getting good reviews and is in your price range. I have had good luck with Ruger revolvers. The Colts are having a 100 year model out right now. I just looked, a stainless one is around $1185, it is awful nice. Arms East has one listed on their web site.

Good luck with your choice.

After giving it some thought, I think I will reconsider getting a 1911 in 9mm. It came into it's own as a 45 and I can live with that.
Besides, the other pistol I love the looks of is a Beretta 92F so eventually when I get one of those, that will solve the 9mm issue.
Still looking over brands, quality and features but it looks like either an STI Spartan, RIA, Remington, and a couple of others. I appreciated your comments.

Thank you for keeping an open mind. You have my respect. Good luck.

As long as it's what you want that's cool. Despite what others have said here there's nothing at all wrong with a 1911 in 9mm. I own and enjoy 1911s in both 9mm and .45, and they're different enough to seem like different pistols--each is enjoyable in its own way for different reasons. Don't worry about what other people say--buy what you want! :)

For a budget of $600 I would go with the Norinco. It has much better steel in it, they are built like tanks and like all 1911 pistols you can mix and match parts as you like. I had one and couldn't see the difference between it and the Trojan other that the $800 more I paid for the Trojan. You can spend the savings on ammo to practice with the gun. At $349. they are a steal.

Take Care

Bob

I currently have two 9mm 1911s... a STI Trojan that has been lightly modified and a Rock Island Armory, that tactical one (Currently on EE)... I love the STI, it shoots great... It has a trigger job, SA mag guide, 10-8 grips ect... the RIA is bone stock... still shoots great... whatever you get you will be able to pimp it out and customize it to fit how you want it... don't discount the RIA they are solid pistols... made by Armscore they are from the same factory as the STI Spartan forgings, best of all they are cheaper...
Cheers,
Kieran
