looking for 1st bolt need some direction

maybe im wrong about it coming with a bushnell.
my friend has a savage and it came with a bushnell, and one of the ads on sfrc said bushnell but not all of them. most dont say what scope comes with it.

The Savage Axis XP comes with a Bushnell 3-9x40mm, the Savage 11 International Trophy Hunter XP has a Weaver, the Savage 11 trophy hunter (the version sold only in the USA) comes with a Nikon scope.

just picked up a rem 700 AAC-SD.
sail just opened in etobicoke and they had 15% off it and had 1 in stock. this rifle is awesome. little heavy but it will do.

any opinions on optics?
i want something with a low 2 setting and would love it to go up to 9 but most the ones i see are 2-7 and 3-9.

i was looking at the Leupold VX-1 3-9x40 from flhertys for $219 in silver.. (i like the silver look on this rifle...just like remingtond photo on their site lol)
but i also saw a nikon prostaf 2 3-9x40 @ sail (no tax right now...)

here she is, i threw on a bushnell trophy XLT 3-9x40 that i already had because i want to go try it out this weekend and im not sure what scope to get just yet.
so this will at least get me out and throwing rounds down range for now.

All factory guns shoot pretty much the same with good and bad examples in each. The differences are even fewer if you use factory ammo. Top precision rifles cost upwards of 2 grand to build. Off the shelf true-precision rifles are rare and run up past the 5 grand mark. The glass used on these runs upwards of a grand.

The particular market you are looking at is separated only by esthetics and minor differences in achieving the same thing. Stick with a good well-known brand (Remington, Savage, Tikka, Winchester) Buy what you can afford and don't let anyone tell you one brand is better than another. Get shooting and pretty soon you will answer most of your own questions.

edited.....I see i am a day late and a dollar short as usual.....

You have a nice rifle!! get shooting, have fun and enjoy.

thanks...but look 1 post before yours... already bought the rem 700

ill be using factory ammo and some hand loads. its just the glass i have to sort out now, and ill probably do glass bedding on the stock once i read into that process some more.

really happy with the feel of the hogue stock...i know its a little flimsy

Excellent choice for your first bolt gun. The best thing about the 700 is you can do anything to them but they shoot great right out of the box. The only thing it "needs" is bedding and you're done.
Happy shooting.

thanks, quite happy with it...i was torn between this and the tikka..this just appealed to me a little more.
i just used a very thin shim to float the barrel a little better.
the stock is skelentinised, i heard the newer ones were a little more rigid than the older hogues for the 700's..not sure if thats true or not...i assume mine is a newer one.

im going to have it bedded once i shoot it a little, just waiting to get in touch with a smith who is a friend of the family and see what he has to say. ide like to have it fitted better into the stock, i think the back end needs to be grinded down in the stock a little to fit better. i can do it but dont want to mess with it till i get his opinion.

Alberta Tactical can take care of that.

checked their site..couldnt find it...ill look some more.

but more importantly, what should i be looking for in a muzzle break?
what do different designs do?

someone send me a pm about a linear break, but im not sure if thats what i should be looking at, shouldnt there be some left and right venting to reduce the recoil?

model 10 is better i think, jmo. heavy barrel would be better is the sound of things and higher power scope can be allot of fun, just saying. good luck.
your other option is Savage model 10 or 12 in 308.
can get heavy contour in 308 that will set you around 700-800 and is plenty accruate.
once you burn the barrel out or thinking of modifying the rifle, there are plenty parts for it. just like rem700, savage lines do have tons of stocks and "prefit match grade barrels" you can order in.

Just built a cheap savage model 12 in 308 my self. same factory barrel and action, accutrigger set to 2lb, changed to HS precision stock, bushnell tactical 10x42 scope. Rebedded freefloated my self for 25 dollars.

Total build only costed me $1200 dollars and i am sure i can get thousands of cheap 308 ammo to go through it.
Very fun plinking rifle and also will get down any game in canada... but personally i hunt with custom 340Weatherby mag or 300Rum.

if you have some questions about savage and rem 700 lines, give me a pm. i'll gladly go through what they both has to offer

any idea where i can get a muzzle break for this in canada? threaded one.
You could try North shore barrels, mystic precision, alberta tactical rifles. If you don't see the listed try asking them on the dealer fourms or one should coment on here sooner or later.

Alberta Tactical home page shows "services include:", it's in the list.
They don't show a specific brake, so you'll have to call them up.

check this post...kinda confused as what i should look for....any suggestions of designs and what works how?
what about the linear brakes?

ahh ok thanks.

Sorry about that ez8, didn't mean to confuse you, just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in, as for muzzle brakes I have never used them, the only rifles I have are a Savage 11 in .223 Rem,
a Savage MK2 in .22LR and a Lee Enfield .303 British. I do however like this muzzle brake, Its a Badger Ordnance FTE Removable muzzle brake I would like to see what it would do on a
Lee Enfield, here some pictures I found on Brownells website, I know not really a place you could get it from but they have lots of options and if you see something you really like you
can always ask one of the many dealers and see if they carry them or can get them for you.

From what I found just searching Google is that linear muzzle brakes redirect noise forward instead of to the side. Here is a post on the website I found might not be what your looking for, but
its an option.

Call Rick at Alberta Tactical.

You can't pick a product just by it's name or looks.

They are exceptional at explaining things and any time talking with them is often very valuable.

I've shot two of their guns with their brake. I know very little but did feel the gun was very easy to shoot with little kick and little to no dust/snow kick up.

first day at the range with her.
recoil was not nearly what i expected...i still want the brake eventually just because mine is threaded, but ill put it on the backburner for now.
going to invest in a 1 piece base, better rings and a better scope. current scope and rings were just a quick grab and pull off something i already had just so i could try it.

i wasnt doing soo great, head was spinning so i had trouble holding where i wanted to shoot.
my one friend @100 yards had 3 shots touching...i was doing 1-2" groups.

heres mine @ 50 yrds that one in the white section is a .223...so just disregard that lol
