Hi All - I've been using VV 135 in my .223 with both 55gr TTSX and 69gr Nosler bullets, but I'm running low.

I have an unopened pound of H4198 kicking around and I'd like to give it a try. It seems a bit fast, but perhaps good at 5.56 pressures?

For example, Hodgdon lists 20.0gr with the 69gr Sierra HPBT for 2804fps at 53,200 PSI. It seems as though there is a little room to work with there.

What has your experience been with the .223/H4198 and mid-heavy bullets? Good? Great? Or just too fast burning?

I've only seen data for 55gr projectiles with IMR-4198, nothing heavier. That ran excellent for practice ammo but switched to CFE223 for my bulk loading and save the 4198 for other things.

VV powders are my fave right now for versatility.
N140 for heavies.

I did try 20.7grs under a 65gr Sierra BTSP, @2825 fps from a 20" Tikka

I generally use it with 55gr and lighter bullets

Yeah, I might have to cave and just pick up some TAC or something. Or try VV140 like AfroCowboy suggested.
