looking for 250-3000 barrel

Hello guys

I have spent quite a while on my old 250 in a vain attempt to make it shoot right but the bullets still tumble at 25 yards and on. Does anyone know where I can buy a good barrel for this old time take down lever savage. It was made about 1920 if that matters.

The older (pre-1960) barrels had a 1-14" twist which never did handle anything over 87 gr pills to well but I've never heard of a 100 gr tumbling though either, the groups are just more open.

Pete, a barrel for that rifle can't be just "bought", but can be made. After countouring and chambering, someone will have to cut the special threads for the take down feature, and do some careful fitting of the foore end latch hanger. do a search for custom riflesmiths, one should be able to do the work. Nice rifle, worth saving. it won't be cheap.
