looking for 3-4x scope for ar15

What kind of "better quality" traits are you looking for? Are you looking for a more robust optic, like say one that is designed for rough use like a military optic?
I think the gap that's missing is a lightweight, compact scope designed to fit ARs without risers or heavy mounts (like the form factor of the Vortex 3x Spitfire), with no added features like illuminated reticles or variable power. Those features have their use but not everyone needs them and they add cost and (especially) weight. For most people, "hunting scope" quality is all that's needed—waterproof and reasonably tough...like "drop it on the ground" tough, not necessarily "drop it from a helicopter" tough.

A riser or mount is a necessity with the AR due to the inline stock design. The Spitfire 3x retails for $469 CDN and weighs 12.2 oz. The Burris 332 optic, similar in overall shape and design can be had for $10 more than the Vortex and is only 2 oz heavier. When compared to hunting type scopes a 14 oz optic is middle of the road for weight. Either of the above optics will fit the bill for a fixed 3x AR specific optic. For the OP who is looking to shoot at 50 yards a reddot is more than adequate for the role.
