looking for 30-06 surplus

There is very little if any surplus 30-06 left in Canada, if you are lucky you might find some PMC 30-06 ball ammo somewhere but other than that I have to recommend reloading as well. I have been shooting my Garand since 1988 and started reloading for it years ago. There were/are a few good supplies of surplus Greek and Korean 30-06 for sale in the USA recently but unfortunately none of it made it to Canada.

re surplus ought six

I often wonder this myself I have seen through WS catalouge WW surplus ammo in 223 45auto 9mm 308 and 30.06 I ask myself if this is surplus or over run its alot cheaper than factory fodder, but I have to agree handloading is the way to go.

what I am looking for is a recipe that duplicates ought six hard ball for my M1D

Well, one of the "Original" powders for M2 ball is IMR 4895. 50 grains of it.

I have loaded FMJ slugs but they are not all that great.

I use Hornady's 150grn BTSP #3033. With 50grns of 4895 behind it, it is very accurate.

re hornady manual

P.O Ackley books along with the Lyman manual were the bibles for years. How is the Hornady manual? I have not seen it and wonder hoe intesive the section is on 30.06.

As for IMR 4895 I am the very proud owner, father of 2sealed kegs. Guess its time to crack one open

PS is it smokey down your way also??

Hey I have a pdf That lists the specs for the older US small arms cartriges if anyone wants it I can email it to them. This includes the .30-06, 30carbine, 12gage, .45, some other interesting ones too.
