Still waiting on my pal/rpal

I'm hoping someone can recommend some options on a .308 semi auto rifle that is capable of decent 200m precision. The m305 looks interesting for the price but i'm hesitant. I like the AR10 platform but i'd like something non-restricted so i can use it for hunting if i ever decide to go that route.

Are there any other contenders that won't break the bank?

Thanks in advance.

If you don't want to break the bank id go with the M305.
You can swap parts out with american made ones if the Norinco brand makes you hesitant.

Define decent 200m precision?

What kind of accuracy would i be looking at (with upgrades) from a semi? I guess i'll start looking at bolt action :)

The reason i was asking is because i used to shoot touching 5rd groups at 100m with an FAL back i the day.

Unless you have $3000-4000 to spend, get a 305. Semi and precision don't really go hand in hand. You could probably spend about $800-$1200 and get a 305 shooting under 2 MOA @ 200 yards. If that isn't good enough for you, buy a bolt.

Are you planning on mounting a scope?

Yeah i wouldn't mind a scope, and the 305 doesn't seem real scope friendly. I'll probably pick up an M305 because of the price, but leave it un-scoped so i can use stripper clips.

Ever since I was a wee laddie, I have always had a hanker'in to own a BAR in 308win.
It just seems to make my taste buds salvataste.
They just are always up there in price.
Need to kon sider maybe swapp'in something for one.
Dey iz plum purrrrrrrty too.

This is what I posted in another thread about my RFB

I had the RFB at the range the other day setting it up for hunting, Factory 180gr Nosler partitions after the scope was dialed in and gas system set. 100yds

1/2 moa at 200 yards? That is a 1" grouping at 200 yards. Since you've never owned a rifle before (just getting my RPAL comment) you may wish to lower your expectations a wee bit. Very few moderately priced bolt rifles (excusing the "have to be true" internet claims of course) will consistently shoot that at 100 yards without tuning or working up loads. A semi, well as others have stated, unless you are willing to spend over $3,000 and tuning those, it's not going to ba achievable in a perfect world. Notwithstanding all the shooter issues on top of all that. I've been down that road (when I was young, foolish and money to burn) and spent a fair amount of money with semi's trying to achieve this fleeting fantasy. If you want consistent accuracy, a bolt gun really, is what you want. Nothing ###y about a bolt gun, but I have found that with a hinged floorplate, solid mechanism, floated barrel....they are great shooters.
