Hi - been looking for some .32-40 cartridges in winnipeg (or vancouver) - any suggestions welcome.

Thx

New Camper sounds right. I haven't seen the stuff since the 80's, and what I do remember was John Wayne commemorative stuff (was a kid then and might be wrong).
There might be some limited runs, but you've got to be at the right place at the right time.
Sounds like if you don't handload, you might have to start.
Handloaders Manual Of Cartridge Conversions says you've got to use either factory brass, or 375 Win to make that critter up. A tapered case that isn't bottleneck, but looks more triangular in profile.

.32-40, today is a reloaders cartridge. I purchased one of the John Wayne Commemorative Carbines a few years ago after the original owner had let it's butt plate rust. It took me 6 months to find reloading dies and brass. Bullets are an easy find at the Bullet Barn.
The only factory ammo you will find is the JW Commemorative ammo manufactured in or about 1983, its worth at least $75.00 per 20 rounds. By the way it is a fun caliber to shoot.

Winchester does a run of brass every few years and is your best bet for properly marked product. You can also neck up and fire form .30-30 (best bet for accessibility) though it does come up a bit short. The plus side of this is that it allows you to crimp in the cannelure of the Speer 170 gr .321" bullet for the .32 Special and end up with the proper overall length.

To be entirely proper though it's best as a lead bullet cartridge. I've been playing some with Trail Boss and it has resulted in some very good accuracy with mild recoil, not that the .32-40 is a big kicker...
