Looking for .357 Magnum Revolver Recommendations

Op......If JDC's 586 is still avail you should seriously consider it! Nice revolver/price and a long time G'nutter with lots of EE experience.....

My first handgun was a S&W Model 66 that I was pretty partial too.

The K frame was very adaptable to any number of different sized and different style grips also; a great feature for people with different sized hands.

Unfortunately I have yet to gain access to the EE...
What about a Alfa-Proj ALFA Steel 3561 DA/SA Revolver - 357 Mag?

I’m sorry but if you can afford the S&W and Ruger, then skip the Alfa. If you just want a cheap revolver, then fill your boots.
You’ve noticed no one has mentioned the Alfa so far?

PS you don’t need the EE. You can directly PM JDC using the PM function right now.

OK. I will bite. I bought 3 Alfa Proj guns. They work fine. My 4.5" blued steel 357 hasn't given me any trouble yet and has been fed a good diet of stout loads. It has a recessed cylinder and no built in lock to f-up. Won a match one year with one. Are they a S&W? No, but they are not junk either. BTW I own a couple S&W revolvers too so this is not a biased opinion.

My first and so far only revolver is the Ruger GP100 in 6" stainless. The only thing I had to do was swap out the front sight for something a bit more visible. It's an amazing gun and looks like something that will last well past my own lifetime. No regrets.

I don't know anything about Alfa Project, I didn't even consider them. But I did look at some Taurus and can say I'll never touch one. Really if I was to pick the brands I'll likely buy revolvers from in my life, it'd be Ruger, Smith and Colt, and if I can afford it, Dan Wesson.

Like you said, they are not a S&W...nor a Ruger. The OP stated he had an eye on a 686 then asked about the Alfa. As I said, if he can afford and wants the 686, then the Alfa should not be in the consideration.

Very good advise here,! S&W are fantastic. I bought a few other cheaper brands over time for fun, and enjoyed shooting them all.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. How difficult is that to do?

Peace of cake....springs bought from Practical Performance Products (info@practicalperformance.ca), sold at the unity ($10.00 each) instead of pack of several in the US. ; you have tutorials on Internet.
Before buying my GP-100 (intended for Steel Challenge and some IPSC when I want to have fun), I had the button "add to the cart" almost depressed for a stainless Alpha in 9mm with moon clips.
It occured to me that a LGS had them in stock; I handled them, 6" and 4,2"; surprised by the nice fit/finish BUT, grip too small and badly hurting my middle finger; also, muzzle heavy (for the 6").
So I'm very glad to have choosen a GP-100 from a CGN'er on EE.

By the way, Practical is based in Fort Mc Leod in Alberta.
The springs are Wolff's.
Very good service, fast shipping (call John at 450-553-2900).

I grabbed one of the new 8 shot .357 Ruger redhawks from bullseye, cant wait to get my hands on it.

Hopefully yours isn't a dudd like mine was. Ordered it on line. Took it out of the the box when I got it and the trigger and hammer were completely seized. The vendor never bothered to check the gun before they shipped it. They took the gun back but it was kind of a hassle. Will never buy Ruger again

My GP100 was the biggest POS ever, the tolerances were to tight after firing 30 or so rounds the hammer and cylinder jammed up

Had to use a block of wood to slam the cylinder open, never again will I buy a ruger revolver
