Looking for .38 S&W ammo for Enfield No.2 Mk I* revolver

Recently inherited an Enfield No.2 Mk I* revolver, chambered in the obscure .38/200 caliber.

Any chance of getting some ammo for it? It's an unusual piece and I'm sure it hasn't been fired in decades but it would be fun to take to the range.

I've seen it on shelves and at gun shows. Have seen brass available too, if you reload.

It's around, and not super common, but not rocking horse poo rare, either.

A location in your profile will help, eh. Unless you are a big fan of paying hazmat charges on top of already high ammo prices, ypou probably want to shop local.

The Cartridge was a special loading on the old .38 S&W casing, based rather strongly on the Webley .380 "Manstopper" loading of a 200-grain cup-point soft-lead bullet.

The Army adopted this load but changed the bullet from a cup-point to a 200-grain jacketed RN slug to avoid violating the Hague Convention. Later this was changed to a 178-grain jacketed RN bullet.

The old .38 S&W is still being made, but only with 146- or a 125-grain slug. In the Service revolver, this shoots very low and, for th Webleys and Enfields, you need an auxiliary rear sight just to get it onto the target board. I don't know if there is anything which will help the pre-Victory Smiths, apart from the right ammo.

GOOD NEWS is that friend JETHUNTER ( jethunter in this forum) is now making a CORRECT 200-grain .362" RN cast soft-lead bullet which will shoot to point of aim. This has been sorely needed for about the last 50 years, but is available right NOW. Loading these to about 600 ft/sec will put you in the black.

EASY cartridge to handload: no tricks except the impossible bullet which is now available. Try about 1.8 to 2 grains of Bullseye. Original ammo used Chopped Cordite, which is no longer available.

Trade-Ex has brass and dies, powder and caps are everywhere.

Hub Sports in Abbotsford had it when I have a Colt Police Positive in that cal a few years ago. I remember the stuff chrony'd at about 655 fps...you could almost see the round go down range.
