Nah, with progressive slow-burnin' powders you're still getting plenty of fps benefit from the jump from 60 to 80. Not nearly as much as you get from (say) 40 to 60 grains, but still enough to make it worthwhile.

Now the 257 STW, that's starting to get silly...

+1. You want efficiency, use a 22 LR. I shoot the 7mm STW (and am building a 257 STW), they work fine. These are big game rifles, not target guns. - dan

besides those 80 grn charges keep the powder companys in buisness and gives you a reason to buy keg size powder containers. all good fun and the velocity gains over a rem 7 mag are pretty good.

Using the Berger line of bullets you have hard to beat performance in the 180gr vld or 168gr vld.

Great round, I'll be carrying one for Deer again this year. 160 TSXs at 3300+ fps. sub MOA at 300 yds. Won't be the guns fault if something goes south.
