Looking for a 1-4 scope for AR-15

Pickup a used Comp m2 or C3 and throw the 3x magnifier behind it. Less weight when you don't need the magnification.

Having used both I'm inclined to agree with this and here is why:

1. A 2 MOA aimpoint is good from 0-200m without magnification, even better is the fact that it is so much faster then a 1-4 power even at its lowest setting. The dot just works so well. You can simply add the magnifier for shooting 200m+

2. The 1-4 power optics are very much a specific role application. IE if you are engaging targets 200-400m, on occasion going to shoot <100m and have time to acquire your target. However unless you are competing at ranges >100m then this is generally not the case and you might find that reality is exactly the opposite of the primary role of the 1-4 power optic. The upside to the 1-4 is that you can get some pretty precise shooting done with it given the time.

Honestly I think a shooter can meet the capabilities of a carbine with the AP and do it faster without the complexity of using the 1-4 power optic.

I was thinking that something in the 1-4x or 2.5-8x illuminated would be perfect for my SAN for it's combined roles of daytime gopher shooting and evening walks with the dogs in 'yote country. Just have to find the one that I like the best!

4. Accupoint - TR24-3 1-4X24 30MM
no batteries required - good.

Very nice and clear glass and love the chevron in green.

I also like the Green triangle in the TR24 package, not by any means a precision optic because of the large aiming point, but I have used it effectivelly out to 500m for service rifle matches.

It is however > the $1000cdn mark.

1-4 Nightforce or 1.1-4 Short Dot -- these two can run like an Aimpoint (not quite as good but damn close)

Not a lot of trigger time on the new Trijicon Accupoint Green reticle, but it looks pretty good.

For 99% of users, the Aimpoint with a magnifier is a good scope -- remove the magnifier when you don't need it.

My zombie apocaplyse gun has a T-1 on it, the NF and S&B sit at work on 7.62 16" guns

Aything past 1.25x (even really 1.17) and your not getting a decent enough picture to run two eyes open you will get some offset like what happens with Trijicon BAC ACOG's - they question is the 2-3" at 25m something you can life with -- some can't -- which is why Army SMU's use the Short Dot and Navy SMU's use the NightForce 1-4 NSX

Have one, its alright but nothing close to the Shortdots I've seen. Certainly not as fast as the Aimpoints I have. Accurate shooting with the AP is certainly doable if its properly zeroed.

I have one and an aimpoint. The quality and clarity on the IOR is very good- but its heavy. I like the recticle in the IOR, the horseshoe and BDC is a nice fit.

I ran DMS on my work gun the second time overseas with no issues. It held up and got a workout believe me.;)
Although, my first tour I was spoiled with a Short Dot thanks to a certain KAC rep. It too got a workout.:D
Both were in a Larue 1.93 mount.
For the weekend shooter, the Millet is more than enough scope IMHO.
YMMV,
Hoddie

Buy a night force and be done with it.

I agree, I got one with a Swiss arms package deal & It's awsome, I went coyote hunting & with the moonlight assist forst thing in the morning I could practically see in the dark, kinda like my Swaro Bino's only with one eye!!!!! Although looking forward to trying out my Falcon!!!!

Wow, I'll have to stop coddling the DMS then :D

Hoddie,

How are the elevation/windage knobs on the DMS?

As a guy who lives on ranges mostly, I'm looking for a scope I can dial up from 100-500m elevations, and set for windage zero and click off as required with confidence.

Is that do-able?
