Looking for a 12ga SxS that matches these...

For upland birds, I would think ejectors are an unnecessary feature, and having them on your must-have list will discount a great many fine used boxlocks that would otherwise fit your criteria. Even on an expensive double, ejectors can be finicky and a source of expensive repairs.

I would aim for a used British-made Webley & Scott boxlock, or one of many lesser-known names (probably made by Webley & Scott anyway).

Good luck with your search!

Yes, while I have them I personally find ejectors a pain in any kind of undergrowth. That's if you want to pick up your plastic. And come to think of it, also if you don't want to have to stoop down to pick it up. 99 times or more out of 100, I'll cover the breech with my hand and and grab the shells as soon as the gun tries to toss them away.

I'm in complete agreement on this. I have two extractor SxS, the rest are ejector and I wish all were extractor! And aside from a restock, they are the most difficult and costly repair and the part of the gun most likely to not work properly, even when working.

I just had a quick glance over...I was hoping for something a little more polished.
Did they pick up all of TradeEx Canada's inventory? Looks like a fair share of the offerings are older Husqvarna SxS's. A friend has one...works flawlessly, but not exactly what I had in mind.

For the $ they're going for. I think the Simons-Merkel/BRNO/Husqvarna are a pretty good value.
- Had the chance to play with some of them that had been "cleaned-up" by their owners. I think they'd be a better purchase than any new $1k SxS

A nicely-used W&S will set you back at least $2k

Prophet has what looks like a nice Beretta 409 for +/- $1600

Hard to find a better SxS for the money than a Husqvarna 310 AS. I foolishly sold a 16 gauge 310 AS and now my buddy won’t sell it back to me. Very well made guns with very high quality barrels.

I’ve always thought they would be a fantastic starting point for a project custom gun. Throw out the wood, add some stylish engraving and redo the finishes and you’ve got a gun that can hold its own in any company.

The 409 is a fantastic SxS but given that the OP has a Churchill that fits him and that he shoots well, I highly recommend against buying a Beretta 409. The fit on the 409 will be like night and day in comparison to the Churchill. The OP probably wont enjoy the added felt recoil nor the added difficulty of hitting targets. The BSS posted above would be much more comparable as far as fit is concerned

The 409 is a fairly light gun in comparison to the BSS. I have a 409 in 16 guage and a BSS in 20 and the BSS weighs more and is more comfortable to shoot. Hard to beat the quality of the 409 though.

I agree. The 409 is a very light gun. I also have a 16g and it’s comparable in weight to my Churchill 512. Fit is a totally different story though. The fit of the Churchill is more comparable to the BSS even though its a couple pounds lighter.

Try Ralf Martini's website. He has a number of lovely guns.

I picked up a lovely Merkel o/u in 20 bore from him. Look at the used guns.

Kind regards,

About mid way down is a Merkel 12 bore for$1400.00

Sometimes it is better to spend a week bit more and get oneself a quality piece of equipment.

If the op is looking to spend $1300. Another couple hundred won't break the bank.

And what Ralf sells is quality firearms. You wont have to worry about that.

And he is really easy to talk to.

Kind regards,

Another vote for Huglu from Prophet River. They have a great selection of Huglu SxS and O/U shotguns at very reasonable prices and some have VERY nice wood on them. I recently bought a Huglu O/U in 28 gauge from them and it is a sweet little shotgun, beautiful Turkish walnut and the fit and finish rivals anything out of Italy that is twice the cost IMO, mine did come with the white Bradley bead but I like it, very easy to change to something else if you don’t.
