Looking for a 1911, Suggestions?

I think this comes up a lot, try the not-so-good search function.

I think Kimber gets some positive feedback. I will be looking to get a 1911 someday soon too.

I decided to go with a kimber. Right away it was very tight because it is from their custom shop. after about 400 rounds it is now flawless. I highly recomend them. I once stripped the bushings changing the grips and I phoned kimber to order more and they sent then to me for free even though it was my fault. good service

good luck

Better get down to a gun shop, cause 1911 pistols have a certain feel, I did not like it much..I like the 92 fs, cz's ,and sigs, better.

Agreed.

I actually bought mine because i liked the way it felt in my hand, more so that 3 other models the range had.

In this case it's a smith & wesson..

That is one sweet looking gun, love the digital grips

S&W and STI (and by STI I mean real STI, not the Philippines-made Spartan) make the best mass-produced 1911s, IMO. American-made Springfields also have a good reputation (their low end Brazilian-made guns are a somewhat different story). Kimber tends to get mixed reviews and it seems that their quality control is not that great. Same with Taurus. Colts are good shooters but often come with cosmetic flaws. And Para is basically the worst 1911 money can buy (low quality metal, jamming problems, and too many other issues to list).

Walter at Arms East has a Colt Stainless GI commander in stock. Nice little pistol.

I also have a sweet spot for the Springfield Armory TRP Operator

Also check out Dan Wesson. Arms East has them. Much better quality than Kimber, but at a much lower price than what you would pay for a Wilson Combat etc.
