Looking For A 1911 - Where Do I Start?

...thanks for all of this...

...who carries a colt 1991 series 80? ...readily available? ...and how can you pass up a norc for $280?

The unmarked Norc 1911A1's from Can Am are a sleeper deal for an econo 1911.

Probably the best buy going out there on an econo 1911.

Pleased with the fit/finish of mine [for the money]. All I did was give it a detail strip & clean to get the gunk out of it.

Have put a vintage Colt S70 trigger in mine now & changed out the grips but other than that she's all stock.

...very nice...

...i spent the thanksgiving weekend with my son in Alberta so went looking at 1911's ...i like the traditional 1911/1911A1 design ...i think that's what i shot years ago at the club to which i belonged ...i'm a sucker for simple ...i'm also a sucker for traditional and in spite of there being sigs and kimbers out there i think i will eventually want a colt for any number of reasons so i might as well get one up front ...i like the looks of the remington as well and no one has said anything about them with a sticker of 700$ ...perhaps the silence is for a reason?

...but at the same time so many people are pleased with the norc ...just can't have too many junk guns ...got a couple sks's ...one very accurate (nice bluing too) and the other not so much ...so i'm shooting the later, dragging it through the bush and in the truck, learning the feel with it ...wear that one out and use it for parts later on?

...i think i'll get a norc and a colt ...and would like the chance to shoot each ...perhaps at my rpal i can find someone with each?

^ the Norc's are great for the $...the largest downfall is the machining finish internally. When racking mine by hand, the slide felt like it was sliding over corn cobs and broken crockery. (some lapping compound fixed that).
Another issue for me was the short (original GI type) trigger. The shorter trigger had be pulling my shots pretty consistently (an adapted method of griping the gun fixed that as well), but I will be changing the trigger on mine.
I don't own a Remington, but from what I've read some like them, others not so much. I believe the Ruger to be superior and in the same price range.

Prophet river has 1991a1s I got mine from them a little over a month ago 1150 taxes and shipping ordered on a Sunday had it Wednesday. Way nicer trigger than my sr1911

Besides the budget, as already mentioned, you should also decide what kind of feature you want or not.

For me personally I don't want anything that has firing pin block (either Colt's version or Kimber's) or external extractor; every person is different and I won't argue one way or the other, but once you start filtering based on features, the choice starts becoming easier.

If you don't care, then yes, you'll have a huuuuge selection =P
