looking for a .22 semi-auto, looking at a gsg 1911

very happy new owner here

just took my new one out to the range today 300 mix of mini mags, Winchester X (sumthing like that in the red plastic trays) HP and RN, American eagle HV, blazzers and some cci stingers (theese things have a real nice flash lol). All without a hiccup. I had two fail to fires but i'm pretty sure they were an issue with the ammo and one fail to feed probably due to me not paying attention while charging the mag this thin is fun, not bad for the first 300 rounds.

and it looks good lol

ruger mk III competition (actually looks good)
gsg 1911
p226 .22

all solid choices there. the p226 and mk III competition are pricier thought

Only problems I ever had with mine is when it got dirty. Maintain it properly, it will be loads of fun. Sig 226 .22 is only $549 at Cabela's. Not that much more, for a superior pistol (my opinion), with room for expansion to other calibers. Sig does have a beefier grip if you have small hands.

I hear the Ruger's are great guns, but they didn't fit me well at all. Didn't like them. Try a few and see what you like.

I let a range buddy shoot my German Sig 220 45acp and guess what he wants to buy now... I prefer the Sig platform, but I'm certain I will return to the 1911 platform for a mid/upper level model. Great platform for the 45acp.

Here was my GSG, before I sold it... I have a range video somewhere too.

Cabelas is sold out of the Sig 226 Classic unfortunately but agreed, great price. Was gonna buy the Sig 1911 XO which was in stock earlier last week but sold out when I went to pull the trigger (so to speak). Damn it! haha

damn, totally forgot about the sig. I like the idea of being able to convert it to a larger caliber...and I've used a friend's sig mosquito and quite enjoyed it.

Looks like Cabela will let you backorder it at that price...might have to think a bit more on this.

Blueline is bringing in the entire Grand Power line....they have a new .22 that looks promising and should be priced well.

I've owned a GSG 1911 for a few months now with no problems at all. I've put around 3500 rounds through it too. I'm not sure where the poster above found it for $500, but I got mine for $320 at a local store. All the problems that the gun had, have been solved with version 2 of the gun. Mine has never been picky with ammo. I've had a few FTE per hundred rounds when using non-Highvelocity ammo, and rarely ever with HV ammo. When you buy it you can confirm its the 2nd version by looking for a 2 on the magazine, or on the inside of the slide. If you google this, you'll find pictures of the exact locations. Chances are though, if you buy one it will be V2.

awesome gun for the price.

oh and the sig 1911 .22lr is exactly the same as the gsg 1911, but usually more expsenive. not sure about it comming with an extra mag, or if that was just a deal he got..

No, no deal, does come with an extra mag, side by side both $429. from International shooting suppplies in Surrey BC.

Well, the conversion to 9mm or .40 has sold me on the sig p226. Gonna order it from cabelas, and will report back whenever it comes in.

I'm a sig fan, but the fact that the slide doesn't lock open on the last shot with the 226 .22 was a huge turn off for me, pet peeve or call it what you will, but that would drive me nuts.

During my research of the gun I have discovered you can get followers for the magazines that will hold the slide open.

I've tried the sig 226, and .. i don't know what i was expecting, but it didn't meet that expectation.

probably because my hand isn't comfortable holding it. true of many great pistols i've tried(only a few). read or heard so much good things about them, but i just didn't like them (i.e. Sig 226 and 229, number of revolvers) because they weren't comfortable in my hands.

That's why i like my GSG.. not because it's a cheap gun or it's a GSG(though really, i got it initially because it was good deal) ... because it's 1911 and that means it is comfortable in my hands.

when people ask "what's good gun for beginner!" the answer seems always to be mostly Ruger MK series... I just cannot stand the grip on those.. (and I have a MK3 22/45, and that's only barely passable).

so, try before you buy!!!

Hi Secular,

I was thinking about getting this gun as well, but then I read all the comments posted here:

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2011/08/27/review-of-the-gsg-1911-22-pistol/

I understand that many of the complaints were posted back in 2011 so you say that most of the problems have been ironed out since then?

I really want to get this one, and if there are any forseable problems, it's good to know that there's a local dealer to help out with warrantee issues.

Thanks!

Peter
