High Standards are very popular at our club (I and about 6 others), S&W model 41 is just as popular, some are shooting Rugers (not really in the same league) and a couple Buckmarks, one Vostock, and a mix of others I would not exactly call target pistols. A couple guys have some Pardinis. Bottom line, I think all of the dedicated "target" designs are comparably competative, it still comes down to the shooter. If you have more than one or two, and you shoot them all, you will never get good with any of them. Practice until your pistol of choice becomes part of you, and every action becomes instinctive.
