Hoping to get some opinions as to what I should look for in a SxS 12 ga. with 3" chambers. (28 or 30 inch barrels)

My old 70's (euro) sxs is giving me issues after years of use, and I am probably going to hang her up on the wall.

SO far I have seen very few guns available, but I always liked the Browning SxS , and I am a fan of Spanish guns, but not sure I can afford a modern copy.

If anyone might have a suggestion for me.... I would really appreciate hearing what you have to say.

Thanks in advance,

LuckyStrike

btw... I have been told to just get with the trend and buy a semi auto like everyone else... but I'm old school and love shooting traditional guns.:shotgun:

I bought a CZ Hammer Classic this past winter for dirty weather duck hunting, and it is a very good gun if you are looking for a hammer double.
The CZ hammerless guns are also a good deal, reliable ( no matter WHAT some say) , and fairy well built.
You can actually buy a cheaper AYA or Ugartechea for less than $2,000 IIRC
Clay at Prohpet River has a Sarassquata right now , for $900 here!

You will NOT see me in the field with a semi any time soon, I lob=ve the O/U's and SXS guns way too much!

Hey catInthehatt!

Much appreciated responce.... I was wondering about the Cz's ..... Lots of mixed reviews. I was travelling through Calgary last week, but couldn't find a single example to take a close look at. They seem scarce here in Canada.
As for the Sarassquata at Propher R.... I checked it out last month, but it's not chambered for 3" (I was told)
I'll keep looking and I'm sure the right SxS will find its way into my grasp!
thanks again ...

You could consider a Baikal. They are inexpensive and reliable. A bit heavy, but that's OK for the duck blind. Interchangeable chokes. Tang safety.

I use one for waterfowl, and like it a lot. In fact, I sometimes leave my Beretta Xtrema at home in favor of the Baikal. In fact, I may throw the Xtrema up on the EE, now that I think of it.

I'll stick to a quality 2 3/4" gun and shoot tungsten matrix shot. The Old Man's Model 21 is just the ticket...when I can sneak it out of the safe and into the blind without him kiyiying too much. For high volume stuff I have a Gold 3 1/2".

I had the Baikal SXS out last night and it dropped a few ducks very nicely. After the season I may send it out out to be camo dipped. A SXS in Max-4 is just the ticket for waterfowling.

Well... I just bit the bullet ...... bought myself a new (old) SxS

A helpful member here alerted me to a nice BSS ... should have her next week for a test run!

Always wanted one of those Brownings....

Happy Shooting

Lucky :)

Bss -- nice gun --- make sure you open the chokes up to at least modified for steel -- even then Browning warns and advises that those barrels are not approved for steel shot.
Cheers/luck!

You musta bought the two BSS's from The Gun Dealer...Those are two fine lookin brownings..I was considering the imp.cyl/mod one, but never jumped on it, gonna wait for a nice sporter 20 to come my way.

Both were nice for sure...If it was me, I'd keep the Excellent conditon BSS (imp. cyl /Mod) for sunny day hunting / collection. The other would be the main hunter as it wasn't in as good shape. But thats just me..

I'll post some pix of the pair when they arrive....

Good idea on the use of the pair... :) ... thx again for your input!

Besides its always nice to have a backup!
