Looking for either a 300 in WIN or WSM. Looking for advice on brands. Bolt guns only. Looking for a 600 yard gun. Hoping to keep the gun around $1000. Any advice at all helps

I'm very happy with my Browning Abolt composite stalker in .300 Win Mag I bought circa 1995.

Factory 26" barrel. Loves 70 gr IMR 4350 behind any good quality 180 gr JSP bullet.

NAA.

Tikka, Weatherby Vanguard, Howa or Savage add to the list.

My favorite will be Tikka (Had 5 in varies caliber still own 2) never come across a Tikka that don't shoot.

Every single one shoots moa or under, one in 300wm prints ragged hole with 3 shots @ 100 with factory ammo.

As far as 308 is concerned...

Used CZ 550 (crf), CZ 557 (pf), Ruger M77 MKII (crf) or Ruger M77 Tang Safety (pf) would be my choices.

I have never warmed up to Winchester, but the newest model 70 looks to be a lovely rifle, as are the early Remington Model 7 and Classic models.

Just about anything chambered in one of the .300 magnums will reach out to 600 easily.

If you want to do it accurately, I'd look at rifles based on actions being used as donors or straight factory builds for long range shooting. Bergara B-14, Tikka T3X, Howa 1500 (aka Weatherby Vanguard) are all popular for non-custom rigs. Rem 700 can do it as well but not sure on the quality of the newest models yet.

I have owned 300 Win Mags in Winchester M70s, Remington 700s, Vanguards, Commercial Mausers,
Rebarrelled P14s, and probably others. All were good shooters, and the chambering is quite capable
of handling anything in North America.
It's no secret on here that I like the 308 Norma Magnum best of the "big" 30s. Ballistically, it is so
close to the 300 Win Mag that any difference can be ignored. I have owned at least one 308NM at one
time since 1967, and 600 yards is a realistic distance to shoot with these..

For the OP, I would suggest he find a Vanguard S2 in 300 Win Mag. These tend to be very accurate
and are stocked so as not to beat the snot out of you. [Tikkas tend to deliver more "felt" recoil]
The Howa is the same rifle without the Weatherby stock, so also a good choice.

The Brownings suggested are also good, accurate rifles, but I have not warmed up to them. You may
feel differently when you shoulder one. :)

Comment on the 300 WSM. Owned 2, both Vanguards. My BIL still owns one of these. Components
less common than 300 Win Mag, and in handloads, gives up about 100 fps. Factory loads [When you
can find them,] are ballistically similar to 300 WM. Both mine were very accurate. Dave.

Another option that isn't mentioned often anymore are the the older Savage Model 111 rifles (top bolt release, Detachable Mag).

These were accurate and inexpensive, used value probably around the 4-500 range and very upgradeable and fun to play with.

Or new Savage long range hunter 111 in 300 WM for around 1200.00

Or the Vanguard Series 2 are great for the price...Cabelas has the 300 WM listed at 899.99
