I would like to find a quality SxS 410, 3" chambers, dual triggers, extractors, prince of whales grip, splinter fore end, full chokes or full-mod. Nice wood would be a plus. Something with color case hardening perhaps?

I can't seem to find a company that makes such a thing that is available in Canada!! My 11 year son deserves a new toy!!

Any suggestions from you shotguners?

Maybe look for older models of better quality?
I'm guessing $400-$500 would be a reasonable cost?

Maybe a CZ?
Nawt shure whut dizz POWG is all 'bout?

Catt needs to show up, heez the SxS Wizzard.

A prince of whales grip is a modest pistol grip, usually very rounded on the bottom. It's between a straight grip and full pistol grip 'Looky.

I would prefer used, something Spanish or German maybe?

Oh, no external hammers either.

I don't know how much you are looking to spend, but I have a beautiful Browning Citori Lightning in .410 for sale (LNIB) in the EE... the barrels are stacked the other way though.

There are Boito shotguns in 410ga SxS available in Canada with 26" barrel, wood stock and fixed full chokes. They come with a 5 year warranty and should retail for around $650. PM me if you need to find a local store that could get one for you.

I forgot to add dual triggers, lol. I'll edit my post!

Hoyt, if I can't find what I am looking for in a SxS I might go O/U, but I prefer the SxS because the break action angle is much less. Nice shotgun though!!!

If that CZ Ringneck had ONE more trigger I would probably buy 3-4 of them lol.

That's a bit steep for me canvasback, beautiful piece of work though!!

LOL, That's why I don't have one yet. But some hard core pals on Doublegun in the US are raving about theirs. Especially for what they pay which, depending on gauge and configuration is between $1400 and $2000 USD.

I own a Boito SxS, no offense, but they are like handling a 4' long chunk of 4x4 lumber. Lol

I was thinking about that stubble, but since I already have him reloading 410, and he likes it so much for now I just wanted to upgrade his Baikal single.

PM sent

In general though, it seems hard to find the combination of attributes you want in an 'affordable' shotgun. Yildiz makes a nice .410 SxS, but only SST. CZ makes a DT SxS .410, but English grip. The POW/pistol grip SxS models only have SST. If you want to drop a lot more cash, the Italian and Spanish makers have that combination

When I wore a younger mans clothes, I owned a beautiful Spanish made 20g SxS, color case hardened, presentation grade walnut, the works. I sold it when I discovered it had a bent barrel for $200, I am still crying over that. Lol.

I did get your PM, and as much as I love the IJ, the POW grip is a must, for me, and my son it seems, the fit of a POW grip and splinter fore end is what makes it point like nothing else.

Why did modern gun makers deviate from what was a perfect balancing and pointing shotgun, going with bulk and gadgetry instead?

I pretty much agree! My grandfather gave me his English SxS with POW grip, splinter fore end and double triggers. It's what I learned to wingshoot with, and I don't think there's a better combination... though hard to find now. I do pretty well with straight grip, and even the 'Americanized' pistol grip, but classic POW is my favourite.

Good luck in your search!

It depends on the type of shooting and use (or abuse) that a gun has to endure. North American hunting was quite a bit different than European hunting. Even for non hunting reasons, a typical North American gun back in the day was subject to a fair amount of neglect or abuse. A slim, light, refined gun is great for the field (and I love them) but back in the day it was likely thought or discovered that such guns would not stand up well to the requirements of North American ownership or suit the hunting situations and preferences of North America. While I like nice light field guns with a straight grip or POW grip, I prefer a heavy gun with pistol grip if using one for waterfowl with modern loads.
And if nothing else-it's catering to what people seemingly want.
