I'm open to NEA and I don't mind paying a bit more for a Canadian product. Only downside I've heard of is some variance in the tolerances for people doing builds. I'm guessing this would be less troublesome for someone buying a complete factory rifle?

I think the best way to enter the AR15 world is to buy your first rifle complete. You shoot it and you learn it then you build your own. I think building one for a first rifle is a mistake because you don't really know what you want or need. I know it could be easy to build one with website and forum like CGN but the day i will build mine... I'm gonna built it MY way hahaha .

Another vote for Windham Weaponry. I have one and its reliable and accurate as hell.
OP should come to terms with the fact that he's going to eventually build an AR just like most everyone else. Why not build one now? They aren't complicated and if you're willing to wait, you can find great deals on components.
Maybe I will someday, I just dont have the time to put into it for the moment...
It is surely up to you what you spend your money on, but I don't think you should write off Norincos just because of where they are made. I have a Norinco M4 copy, an NEA 7.5 AR, a Colt HBAR, a Colt Sporter and a DPMS .308 AR. Obviously, the Norc isn't up to the fit and finish of the rest, but it shoots just fine and hasn't given me any problems. Nor has the NEA or the others, for that matter. Some have had problems with NEA, but I have not. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck.
I don't know if somebody mentioned here already that Norc in not the option for anybody who shoot matches in US - they prohibited to import.

It's stupid not to buy a Colt expanse right now given brand new 6920 at one point was $2200...
Colt OEM when last available this past spring was $900 US at IRG or $1300 Cdn at AE. It's a 6920 with no furniture. I'd much rather have one of those than an Expanse.
Some Expanse models have been made by Anderson, it's not even a real Colt. Later models apparently use 6920 lowers so make sure you know what you're getting.

I think the Colt Expanse lower is indicated with the serial number starting with "CE"? Other differences I read about are the .223 on the side instead of 5.56. Also, I've seen that the Colt Expanse lower with Colt's MFG instead of Colt Defence.
Not a huge deal by any stretch, but I bet it would be a deal breaker for some collectors.
