looking for a Calgary area gunsmith knowledgeable in sxs fine 1920ish shotguns

I would like to have someone with the appropriate measuring tools to measure the barrel thickness of my Belgium non-damascus 16 ga sxs.

It is proofed for Nitro with 65mm shells. My measurement shows it is 65mm and everything looks fine, but would like to check thickness to be safer.

I'm pretty sure they can do that type of work but if they can't for what ever weird reason, I know a master gun smith that specializes in Perazzi shotguns.

Contrary to what one might think or expect, there are a lot of gunsmiths who do not have the necessary gauges to measure barrel wall thickness or bore. If they are a gunsmith that does not really deal in vintage double barrels, chances are good that they won't have the gauges.

Maybe L&L specialties. He deals in the high end and does some servicing. Can't vouch personally but have heard good things.

Given that 65mm = 2 1/2" and 70mm = 2 3/4", and you want someone to measure your barrels' thickness, your request for assistance leads me to believe you want to run in a chamber reamer to lengthen your chambers and, probably your forcing cones to boot.

When was your gun made? (Look at the proof marks)

How much are your digits worth?

Thats why I want it checked out. I have lots of guns that can shoot big loads. I dont need to wreck one to do so.
And I have a few that shoot 2.5 inch that I enjoy very much as is, but thanks for the warning.

I don't know about vintage guns, but you could try talking to some of the old guys at the Dewinton range. You should be able to track down a few gunsmiths there.
