My friend is looking to put a red dot on his semi-auto 12 ga. shotgun for deer hunting. I can't see a cheap red dot staning up to the recoil and he doesn't want to drop $500 on an Aimpoint or EoTech.

Does anyone have any suggestions about a decent red dot that will stand up to the recoil but not break the bank. I'd like to hear from people who are using this type of combination.

I have been running a 42 mm Red Dot whatever comes in the blister pack, Tasco I think, for years on my 870 set up for turkey, gun has only seen 3.5" through a turkey choke and still keeps ticking along. Not so much anymore but in the early days I would shoot 3-400 rounds through it a year. The recoil is more than brutal and I am no small guy. I remember it was rated for a 357 so I figured for the $20 at wally world it would last a year but it is now going on 18 years. I am running a 38 mm on a 20 ga for a year with no issues, same flavour. Some call it cheap others frugal LOL
