Hello to everyone out there in CGN land! This is officially my first post.

I am hoping to get some advice on which shotgun I should get for my first shotgun ever. I really love the look of the tactical ones, but am concerned on their utility. I would like to be able to shoot skeet as well as targets, but I don't want a long hunting shotgun. I would prefer a 14" barrel at the longest. I have been told that the 870 is a good one, but it would have to have a 14" barrel at the max.

Any ideas?

why 14" ?
ive got an 18.5" barrel on my HP9 and thats easily short enough. can shoot skeet with it aswell .

but yes an 870 is good to go with ..

for an example.. this is me with my 18"

How about the 12.5 grizzly from Canam and a longer barrel of your choice, the barrel can be swapped in under a minute.

I would recommend getting the 870. There are the Norinco/Dominion Arms ones, or Dlask Arms in BC makes their own custom short barrels and builds them with Remington Express receivers (or at least did when I ordered mine). Get one at least 12.5" long so the mag-tube and fore end is unaltered (the 8.5" ones are modified so won't take a regular barrel).

It takes about 5 seconds to swap the barrel on an 870 so you could just get another 18.5" barrel for target or skeet (rifled or non-rifled depending on what you needed). There may be some strange legal requirements, but I think it is probably easier if you start with a short-barreled shotgun and have a secondary full-size barrel. You should probably check with someone on here who has done it though because if you do the wrong thing it could end up in some prohibited configuration and you'd be "footched".

Why less than 14"? Fireballs:

X2.
Based on your want list, I would agree with what P12 said. The grizzly has 12.5 barrel, 3' chamber and screw-in choke tubes.

I personally have an 870 super magnum that has been tacticalized, but still has all the features I want for hunting.

Wow, thanks everyone for the great responses. It's nice to hear more than one option. I was thinking about 14" and under simply for the looks. I really want a function skeet/zombie killer. I do like the Grizzly with the 12.5" barrel. $299 is definitely a great price too.

Anybody have any feedback about the Dominion Arms Grizzly?

I have the Grizzly, its a good gun at a very good price. If you are going to buy one with the intention to swap barrels, don't get the one with ghost ring sights, unless the other barrel has the same front sight.

Go with the 870 or Grizzly, there are tons of parts and stocks for them,The 12.5 Grizz is a great deal .Or find a cheap Remington 870 and build it bit by bit.Enjoy.Dave
