Looking for a good, affordable, moose gun

I want to get out moose hunting this fall, and I hate borrowing guns so I'd prefer to get my own beforehand.

Unfortunately, I don't have a ton of money to throw around on a rifle. Can anybody recommend a decent gun for a lower price?
 
A lee enfield or mosin nagant will easily take moose. It would be easier to get a sportered lee enfield already to go with a scope mount than a mosin.

That is an absolute steal. The rings, bases and scope are ####. However they will do until you get the cash to upgrade. The gun itself is great for the price. One of my hunting buddies bought one when they were $429. Tossed the scope, rings and bases in the garbage, put on a VX-3 with talley rings and loves it.
 
if your on a budget. i would looking into a used rifle. buying new cheep plastic guns never pays off. tradex has good older guns. IMO you should be looking for a older 30-06. i would much rather use a 50yr old steel and wood rifle for 300$ then a new plastic one with a scope that good for nothing.

Go for a Savage or Marlin as both are more than accurate enough hunting rifles. Either get a package rifle or else buy a Redfield scope and mounts. For caliber if you get a 300 win mag it will do everything up here(including bison) and be long enough range for things like goat and sheep as well. For just moose and caribou 30-06, 308, 270, 7mm, etc. will work just fine. It's all about what cartridge you personally like.

The posted link for a package savage would be the best gun you can get for that price by far. The scopes on them work good too and you'll only notice it lacking in the twilight hours.

Whats your budget. "A ton of money" is wildly different to different people.

My recommendation would be to go a gun shop and look at the rifles which comes closest to it. Pick one in .30 calibre or above which fits you best.
 
There would be nothing wrong with a .303. Often, really nice sporters with scopes come up on the EE for a good, fair price. The .303 British packs a good wallop. :)
