I am looking for a good bipod for a tikka T3 in 308. Will be shooting paper, yotes, and big game, I want it to swivel, and am looking for somthing I can use prone and sitting. Wondering what everyone has used and likes. I know lots of people like the harris, but it seems way to bulky and the springs on the side seem akward.

Thanks for the info.

Harris is the only bipod worth buying.
yes, some bipods are cheaper, slimmer or have less bulky designs, but thats because they are flimsy POSs.

when i bought my first bipod, i immediately shelled out for a Harris swivel even though they were $140ish at the time here in Canada. my friends all cheaped out and bought $40-50 bipods. ive seen each of them replace their bipods 2-3 times either because parts were breaking on them or they got wobbly/loose after awhile. other friends told me that buying the swivel model was 'a waste of money, what do you need that for?'. well, guess what - theyre all upgrading to swivel versions too after shooting my guns.

i have a couple other Harrises now, but that first one i bought is working just as well as when i first picked it up, and its taken a hell of a beating since then. do it right the first time and buy a good bipod, IMO.

best price ive gotten on one was at a US gun show. you can really bargain there especially when they are getting ready to pack up. IIRC one guy was selling a NIB (or bag) Harris S bipod for over $100 and i walked away with it for $60 and a receipt for that price. at the border when they asked if i had anything to declare i just said a $60 bipod, they didnt care.
just make sure you dont say 'its a $60 GUN bipod' :)

lebarons price right now is actually better than brownells in the states, i think brownells sells the Harris-S for ~$125. lebarons has them for $117 and if you are a club card member then its $105. thats not so bad.

make sure you get the right height. the short 6-9 is only good for bench and prone. i use the HB25C-S (13.5-27") for varminting, all my shots are from a sitting or kneeling position (taking prone shots is unrealistic because of uneven ground, height of the grass, etc). and of course the higher ones are completely useless for the bench/prone.

If you want a bi-pod suitable for sitting, then yup, I'm with everyone else, the Harris is the only solution. For prone I'll stick with my Parker Hale but they are stupid expensive, and are only useful for prone.

i hardly ever use my short prone/bench harris anymore: i carry all my ammo, sandwiches, etc in an old army messenger-bag when im out varminting, and if i need to shoot prone i can just shoot off that.
just make sure to put your sandwiches in tupperware, or a heavy varmint rifle really does a number on them :)
